Parents Surprise School With Art Funds at Meadville Elementary School

Announcement Image

When two parents put their heads together for a cause...amazing things happen.  During a PTO executive board meeting at the beginning of school, parents asked about our art program and how it was funded.  When I told them the amount of money each art teacher has per school, they were shocked by the limited supply money.  Parents Laurie Seate and Rebecca Ramey said, "we've got to do something."

Well, they did a big something.  While Mrs. Seate canvased the churches and businesses in the community, Mrs. Ramey set up an Internet fundraising page.  Mrs. Ramey brought a check for $750.00 to school this morning.  Ms. Moria Dempsey, art teacher for the school, will be ordering many new and innovative products to be used with her classes here at Meadville. makes it incredibly easy to raise money online for the things that matter to you most. In less than a minute, you'll be able to personalize your fundraising campaign and share it with the people in your life.

The school wants to thank everyone who worked so hard on this project and to thank all those who made donations.  Our kids will certainly have fun creating amazing works of art

Everyone at Meadville Elementary School will be dressed in Red, White, and Blue on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014.  In the morning, Mrs. Barczak will read aloud a book to the entire school called, The Day America Cried, by Dr. Teri J. Schwartz.  Dr. Sxhwartz is a clinical psychologist who has been treating children, adults, and families for over 20 years.  She wrote a children's book to try to explain what happened on that horrible day so many years ago.  Anther book to be shared during the day are The Little Chapel That Stood, by A. B. Curtiss.  This book is about the little church that stood dwarfed by the Twin Towers in New York City.  It was built in 1766, and was not damaged.  The church served as a sort of depot for all the rescue workers who came from all over the country to help.  This book stresses the courage, bravery, and freedom of the American People.  Fireboat, by Maira Kalman and winner of the Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Award, is another book which will be shared with children.  A boat, the John J. Harvey, a fireboat was launched in 1931 in New York.  This book talks about all the important days in history prior to the boat's retirement...and also what happened when it was called back into action on 9/11/2001.  Please join us as we celebrate all the brave men, women, and children who live in our great country.
