Halifax County Public Schools has made the difficult decision that the Halifax County High School varsity football team will not participate in this evening’s scheduled game against George Washington High School in Danville.
This decision follows concerns regarding recent social media activity directed toward members of our football team. These matters are currently under review by the appropriate authorities, and we believe it is important to allow the investigative process to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and school community as our highest priority, we believe this is the most responsible course of action at this time.
We recognize and value the longstanding rivalry between Halifax County and George Washington High Schools. This tradition of competition has been an important part of both school communities for generations, and we look forward to continuing that relationship through healthy competition, mutual respect, and good sportsmanship in the future.
We appreciate the understanding and support of our families, students, and community as we remain committed to putting the safety of our students first.
