School Board Meeting
Due to road conditions, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This will be a remote learning day for students. All employees report two hours late.

To make a safe attempt at reopening schools, Halifax County Public Schools will implement emergency bus routes beginning Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The emergency bus routes have been identified in each area of the county based on current road conditions. Families will need to bring students to designated pick-up locations. Food will be available for pick up tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 for all Halifax County Public Schools students. Food will be available at the following sites from 1:00PM to 3:30PM – Cluster Springs Elementary, Scottsburg Elementary, Sinai Elementary, South Boston Elementary, and Sydnor Jennings Elementary. Packets will also be available for elementary students. Students from Clays Mill Elementary should pick up packets at Scottsburg Elementary, and students from Meadville Elementary should pick up packets at Sydnor Jennings Elementary.

If a closure is necessary on Tuesday, food will be available for pick up for all Halifax County Public Schools students on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Learning packets will also be available on Tuesday at the elementary schools. Students from Clays Mill Elementary will pick up from Scottsburg Elementary.

These days will be remote learning days for students and work from home days for staff. Maintenance and custodial staff should report both days at 10:00 AM to clear snow. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCHS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.

The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!

Doors will open at 5:15 PM.

If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don't want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!

Blueprints for Dreams:   Building Our Future Together
Referrals for the Halifax County Public Schools’ Elementary Gifted Program in grades K-4 for the 2026-2027 school year are being accepted now through January 28th. Teachers, other school officials, and parents may refer students.  Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to initiate the referral process. The deadline for referrals is January 28, 2026. Students that currently receive gifted services will NOT need to go through the referral process.

Central Office Relocation

Attention: All Visitors

Halifax County Schools Central Office has been temporarily relocated. If you need to see anyone in the departments listed below, please note their new location. If they have been reassigned to the Halifax County Middle School (1011 Middle School Circle, South Boston, Virginia), please check in at the front office and they will notify our personnel that you are there to see them.

Also, if you are meeting with our staff that has been relocated to the Pace Academy, please go to door B and the receptionist at the front desk will inform them of your arrival.

Mr. Chris Brown, truancy officer, can be reached at Sydnor Jennings Elementary School. Please proceed to the front office to announce your arrival.

Sheriff’s Department and Marston Agency please deliver all warrants and garnishments to Pace Academy, 315 S. Main Street, Halifax, Virginia 24558.
