Cougar Pride! 🐾

Clays Mill Elementary is thrilled to recognize Carson Snead, Ava Mills, and Jamari Canada for their exceptional representation at Halifax County Public Schools' Night of Innovation!

These outstanding students demonstrated their electrical engineering knowledge using Snap Circuits and took their audience through a hands-on experience — guiding them in engineering their own fans, lights, and radios. Their confidence, skill, and enthusiasm were a true testament to the excellence we cultivate every day at Clays Mill Elementary.

Carson, Ava, and Jamari — thank you for making our school proud. You exemplify what it means to be a Clays Mill Cougar! ⚡🌟

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, fifth-grade students from each of our elementary schools and members of the Halifax County Middle School chorus joined together to present the Halifax County Public Schools Music Showcase at the high school. Our talented students performed several selections to show how we are “United Through Music” for Music in Our Schools Month. This was possible due to the collaboration of our elementary, middle, and high school music teachers.

Ms. Laughorn's PreK students listened to the story Rosie’s Walk and talked about animals and things you might find on a farm. We also learned directional words like over, under, and around as we followed Rosie’s path in the story. After reading, students participated in a fun Rosie’s Walk obstacle course to help retell the story. This hands-on activity helped students practice listening, movement, and story sequencing in an engaging way.

5th grade created plant models using other items to represent the parts of the plant based on the jobs that those parts do. After they were complete, students conducted a gallery walk to give helpful feedback and answer questions.

Mrs. Grant's Kindergarten class worked with their pen pals from Mr. Nunn's third grade class on a project about Abraham Lincoln. After learning about President Lincoln, Mrs. Grant's class all drew pictures of him and delivered them to their pen pals. They all had 1 fact to share. Mr. Nunn's class then wrote a creative writing piece to go with the pictures. We are so proud of all the hard work they did together!

If you heard a "bump" or a "thump" echoing through the hallways of Clays Mill Elementary this week, don’t worry—it wasn’t Thing 1 and Thing 2 causing genuine chaos. It was simply our Cat in the Hat Spirit Day!

In honor of Dr. Seuss and the joys of literacy, our students and staff traded their usual school attire for a sea of red-and-white stripes, oversized bowties, and, of course, those iconic gravity-defying stovepipe hats.

🍀 🌈Finding Digital Gold – Smart Internet Searching🌈🍀

Not everything online is as good as gold — especially on social media! This month, focus on helping your child become a smart digital detective. Teach them to pause, think, and check before they believe or share something they see online.

✨ Tech Tip:
Encourage your child to double-check information by looking at more than one source. Talk about how likes and shares don’t always mean something is true.
For younger learners, guide them to kid-safe websites where they can explore and learn with confidence.

🌐 Helpful Websites:
PBS Kids – www.pbskids.org
National Geographic Kids – www.kids.nationalgeographic.com
Both offer fun, safe, and educational resources and videos for curious minds!

💚 Remember:
When kids learn to question, compare, and verify what they see online, they strike digital gold — building lifelong skills for safe and smart internet use!
