Mrs. Grant took advantage of the nice weather and took her class outside to carve a pumpkin. They discussed the things they learned on their field trip to the pumpkin patch as they went through the process.

Clays Mill has started the Halloween festivities with parades and costume contests.

Mr. Martin's Halloween classroom

Thursday, October 24th, Clays Mill students enjoyed Steve Somers': The Amazing Teacher present his "Once Upon a Time" magic show. The show brought many fairy tales to life! He even brought along Hopper, his rabbit, to join in the fun. What a special treat for our school!

Students in Mrs. Harvey's 5th Grade science class did an experiment to observe the effect of temperature on light energy. Students made glowing ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, and Halloween monsters to compare the effect of water temperature on how intense and long the glow sticks shined.

Kindergarteners experienced the story "Froggy's Halloween" in the library this week. They discussed the character traits of the main character and made Halloween masks.
Stories are coming to life in the library!

Mecklenburg Electric’s Dustin Francis visited the 5th grade classroom to discuss electricity as we begin our energy unit. Students also had a chance to construct circuits.

Mr. Martin's class had the privilege of the representative from Mecklenburg
Electric to come in and talk about Circuits and electricity with his students.
They enjoyed building circuits and participating in the activities. The students
learned about Series and Parallel Pathways. Thank you to Mr. Dustin for
sharing with our kiddos.

To bring awareness to Fire Safety Week, students at Clays Mill wore red or dressed like a firefighter. Sparky the Fire Dog also made an appearance! We would like to extend a special thanks to the brave firefighters from Halifax and South Boston for visiting and teaching our students vital fire safety lessons.
