Mrs. Fears' 5th graders completed a St. Patrick's Day Lego challenge. Students had different challenge cards to complete. The top four designs included: creating legs that would have a leprechaun run very fast, making a basket that could hold gold, building a fairy house, and designing a pair of glasses. They all did a great job working creativity and thinking outside the box.

Fifth-grade students at Sinai Elementary in Mrs. Fears’ class recently participated in an exciting virtual field trip through space and inside the Earth. During this interactive experience, students explored the structure of the Earth, traveled through the planet’s layers including the mantle, orbited multiple planets, and even landed on the Moon.

This immersive activity aligned with the Virginia Grade 5 Science Standards of Learning (SOL), including 5.7, which focuses on Earth’s structure and the characteristics of its internal layers, and 5.6, which examines the organization of the solar system and the relationships between Earth, the Moon, and other planets.

The virtual exploration allowed students to actively experience scientific concepts that are typically difficult to visualize, deepening their understanding of Earth science and astronomy through interactive learning.

This activity was facilitated by ITRT, Khaela Powell, who guided students through the virtual exploration and supported their discovery of key science concepts.

🍀 🌈Finding Digital Gold – Smart Internet Searching🌈🍀

Not everything online is as good as gold — especially on social media! This month, focus on helping your child become a smart digital detective. Teach them to pause, think, and check before they believe or share something they see online.

✨ Tech Tip:
Encourage your child to double-check information by looking at more than one source. Talk about how likes and shares don’t always mean something is true.
For younger learners, guide them to kid-safe websites where they can explore and learn with confidence.

🌐 Helpful Websites:
PBS Kids – www.pbskids.org
National Geographic Kids – www.kids.nationalgeographic.com
Both offer fun, safe, and educational resources and videos for curious minds!

💚 Remember:
When kids learn to question, compare, and verify what they see online, they strike digital gold — building lifelong skills for safe and smart internet use!
