In Mrs. Shepperd’s math class, students were busy learning how to measure angles using protractors. They practiced identifying acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles while using their Chromebooks and digital tools to measure angles in degrees. It was great to see students engaged, using technology, and building their confidence with this important math skill. Special thanks to Mrs. Heid Ward, ITRT for facilitating this activity.

Students in Mrs. Arkhipova’s class at South Boston Elementary recently learned about photosynthesis using virtual reality (VR). Students explored the inside of a plant and saw how sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide help plants make their own food.

This immersive experience helped bring science to life and made learning about photosynthesis both engaging and memorable.

Thanks to Mrs. Heidi Ward, ITRT, for facilitating this experience for our students! 🌱🔬

PE Fun at SBE!

Students played a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with a twist using hula hoops. One student from each team hopped through the hoops toward the middle. When they met, they played Rock, Paper, Scissors. The winner continued hopping while the other student returned to the end of their line and the next teammate joined in.

The goal was for one team to successfully make it all the way across to the other side! A fun activity full of movement, teamwork, and excitement!

🍀 🌈Finding Digital Gold – Smart Internet Searching🌈🍀

Not everything online is as good as gold — especially on social media! This month, focus on helping your child become a smart digital detective. Teach them to pause, think, and check before they believe or share something they see online.

✨ Tech Tip:
Encourage your child to double-check information by looking at more than one source. Talk about how likes and shares don’t always mean something is true.
For younger learners, guide them to kid-safe websites where they can explore and learn with confidence.

🌐 Helpful Websites:
PBS Kids – www.pbskids.org
National Geographic Kids – www.kids.nationalgeographic.com
Both offer fun, safe, and educational resources and videos for curious minds!

💚 Remember:
When kids learn to question, compare, and verify what they see online, they strike digital gold — building lifelong skills for safe and smart internet use!

South Boston 5th graders recently visited Mrs. Heidi Ward's STEM Lab for an exciting hands-on math challenge! Students used Legos to explore and calculate the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles.

By building their own shapes, measuring sides, and counting units, students were able to see math come to life right before their eyes. Activities like this help strengthen problem-solving skills while making learning engaging and fun!

Way to go, 5th grade mathematicians! 👏✨
