Students in Ms. Libby Redd’s Kindergarten classroom created a special “Spoon of Thanks” to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving! Each student decorated their own gratitude spoon to take home and share with their family.
The tradition is simple and meaningful: the spoon is passed from person to person, and whoever receives it shares one thing they are thankful for this Thanksgiving.

After listening to the story Turkey Trouble, students in Ms. Lopez's class discussed the sequence of events and then brought the story to life by programming Ozobots to travel to each event in the correct order.
What a fun way to combine literacy, sequencing, and coding skills! This activity was facilitated by Mrs. Heidi Ward, ITRT.
Students in Ms. Spencer’s third grade class recently traveled back in time to Ancient Egypt! Using ClassVR goggles, students explored the banks of the Nile River, walked through an ancient Egyptian temple, and stood before the incredible Pyramids of Giza.

Students in Mrs. Nelson’s 5th grade class had a shocking good time exploring electricity! Using Makey Makey, they tested all kinds of items to discover which were conductors and which were insulators. Then they dove into an electricity simulation, working together to create a closed circuit that made their light bulbs shine bright!

To honor Veterans Day, our first graders enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Hatz, who read a favorite story and answered questions about service.
Mrs. Hatz proudly served in the United States Navy for thirteen years. She enlisted right after high school because she dreamed of becoming an air traffic controller. She completed boot camp in Orlando, Florida, and then continued her training in Memphis, Tennessee, where she gained the skills needed for her career.
After training, Mrs. Hatz requested to be stationed in Spain, but she was instead assigned to Sicily, Italy, where she served for three years as an air traffic controller during several significant world events. She later served in Virginia Beach, guiding military aircraft as they practiced over the ocean. Eventually, she worked at a master jet base, where she was responsible for the entire airfield and all airport operations.
During her service, Mrs. Hatz earned a Navy Achievement Medal. After thirteen years, she transitioned out of the Navy, but her service remains a source of great pride for her and her family. Today, her favorite role is being “Mom-Mom” to her six grandchildren.

Students in Ms. Snead’s First Grade class had an exciting lesson on Internet Safety! After reading the story Chicken Clicking, students worked together to solve clues and break out of an internet-themed Escape Room. Along the way, they answered important safety questions and learned smart tips to help keep them safe while using the internet. After their successful escape, students celebrated with a fun Chicken Dance dance-off
On Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, there will be a presentation at HCHS called Hidden In Plain Sight. Join local parents and other caring adults for an immersive experience designed to give you the skills needed to recognize risky behaviors in young people. This presentation is for adults only. Refreshments will be provided.
