Due to road conditions, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This will be a remote learning day for students. All employees report two hours late.

To make a safe attempt at reopening schools, Halifax County Public Schools will implement emergency bus routes beginning Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The emergency bus routes have been identified in each area of the county based on current road conditions. Families will need to bring students to designated pick-up locations. At this time, Halifax County Public Schools will be on a two-hour day delay for students on Thursday, February 5, 2026 and Friday, February 6, 2026. Employees are to report on time. If a change is needed, another call will be made.

Due to road conditions, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, 2026. This will be a remote learning day for students and a work from home day for staff. Twelve-month employees should follow Code 2, report two hours late.

Food will be available for pick up tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 for all Halifax County Public Schools students. Food will be available at the following sites from 1:00PM to 3:30PM – Cluster Springs Elementary, Scottsburg Elementary, Sinai Elementary, South Boston Elementary, and Sydnor Jennings Elementary. Packets will also be available for elementary students. Students from Clays Mill Elementary should pick up packets at Scottsburg Elementary, and students from Meadville Elementary should pick up packets at Sydnor Jennings Elementary.

More Super Second Grade students at South Boston Elementary earned tickets and Dojo points through positive behavior, working hard in class, and turning in their homework. They proudly cashed in their rewards for a token at the Roadrunner Readers book vending machine and selected a brand-new book to take home!

Valentine Lollipop Gram sales will begin when we return to school!
Students may purchase lollipop grams from their homeroom teacher, and all lollipops will be delivered to classrooms on Friday, February 13th.

These days will be remote learning days for students and work from home days for staff. Maintenance and custodial staff should report both days at 10:00 AM to clear snow. Food will be available for pick up on Friday, January 30th for all Halifax County Public Schools students from 1:00PM to 3:30PM. Pick up locations will be Sydnor Jennings Elementary, South Boston Elementary, and Cluster Springs Elementary.

Second grade students in Mrs. Rudder and Mrs. Newbill’s classes at South Boston Elementary School recently wrapped up their habitat projects. Through hands-on learning, students had fun exploring different environments and learned a lot along the way.

South Boston Elementary School students and staff recently had fun celebrating Twin Day! Students and staff enjoyed dressing like their twin and showing off their school spirit.

As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

Students in Mrs. Newbill’s 2nd grade class recently had the opportunity to turn in their book tokens for a brand-new book. Students earned tickets and Dojo points by demonstrating good behavior, turning in graded folders, working hard, staying on task, and completing their homework. They also received tickets for participating in class and showing positive behavior in the hallway. Hard work pays off!

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCHS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.

The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!

Doors will open at 5:15 PM.

If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don't want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!

Referrals for the Halifax County Public Schools’ Elementary Gifted Program in grades K-4 for the 2026-2027 school year are being accepted now through January 28th. Teachers, other school officials, and parents may refer students.  Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to initiate the referral process. The deadline for referrals is January 28, 2026. Students that currently receive gifted services will NOT need to go through the referral process.

We are proud to recognize our Students of the Month at South Boston Elementary School! These students were selected for demonstrating outstanding character, positive behavior, and a strong commitment to learning.

Third grade students in Ms. Farrar’s class read a nonfiction passage about the water cycle and then programmed the Root Robot to move to the vocabulary words in the correct order.
This engaging lesson reinforced reading comprehension, science vocabulary, and coding skills. The activity was facilitated by Heidi Ward, ITRT, at South Boston Elementary School.
