Exciting news from Ms. Redd's kindergarten class! The students have just begun their journey into exploring the five senses. Recently, they enjoyed a fun hands-on activity focused on the sense of taste!

In Ms. Chandler's kindergarten class, we celebrated Labor Day by exploring different careers! The students had a blast showcasing their career outfits and sharing why they chose those professions. We had a veterinarian, a librarian, and a football player among us!

All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025 in observance of Labor Day.

The investigation has been completed, and the soft lockdown has been lifted.

Halifax County Public Schools is holding an online surplus auction on GovDeals.com. The auction is expected to begin on or shortly after September 1, 2025. Items from the old high school including furniture, equipment, and more are up for bid. Everything is sold as-is with no guarantees, and all sales are online only. Twenty-five items will be posted at a time, and the auction for each item will be open for 14 days. The money from the auction will be put back into the maintenance budget for schools.

There will be three open inspection dates and an appointment is not necessary. Come to the old school during the inspection dates and times, and you will be able to view the items. The address is Halifax High School (old school) 1 High School Circle South Boston, VA 24592
The open inspection dates/times are:
Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Halifax County School employees cannot assist with packaging or loading your item(s). The winning buyer should bring a suitable vehicle that can safely transport the item(s), and also bring materials, tools, and loading assistance as necessary.

To set up an account with GovDeals, complete the following steps:

1. Go to www.govdeals.com
2. In the upper right-hand corner, click the "Register" tab.
3. Fill in the information and scroll to the bottom of the page and agree to the user agreement.
4. No credit card is required to sign up.

Someone will be at the old high school lobby on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM to assist individuals with setting up an account with GovDeals.

There are many more items that will be auctioned in the coming weeks so check back frequently!

Ms. Crowder’s 1st grade class enjoyed a fun time of team-building activities. As they like to say, “Teamwork makes the dream work!” It was a wonderful way to practice cooperation, communication, and working together.

Learning is hands-on in Mrs. Green’s Kindergarten class at South Boston Elementary!

Our students are practicing their names in a creative way—by using Play-Dough to form each letter. What a fun and engaging way to build letter recognition and fine motor skills while making learning exciting!

Halifax County Public Schools has Campus Portal so that parents can be active participants in their child’s academic progress. The Campus Portal is a communication tool that provides you with secure access to your child’s school information. It gives you access to your child’s attendance, schedule, grades, assignments, student to-do list, and behavior.
