Today, October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. It’s also a day to let people know that it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you’re going through. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

Too many absences can keep students from succeeding in school. If students miss 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent.

Did you know If a student is absent 10% or more of the school year, it is considered chronic absenteeism? Ten percent is 18 days per school year or an average of two days a month.
