Students at Awards Ceremony

Youth from the Halifax County High School chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a weekend leadership training conference held
April 14-16, 2023 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Attendees participated in a weekend of workshops and sessions that challenged, informed, and motivated members and their advisers to learn more about leadership through FCCLA. Along with nearly 1,000 other advisers and members, Halifax County High School’s FCCLA chapter advisers, Victoria Worley and Bridget Comer, accompanied 5 of the members to the meeting.

To begin the conference, nearly 600 members participated in STAR Events, a series of competitive events that demonstrate proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills. There are over 80 categories of STAR Events for members to compete in as a team or as individuals. HCHS chapter members participated in the following events: Haley Thames in Culinary Arts Exhibit, placing 1st. Logan Coles and Brittany Hazelwood in Sustainability, placing 1st. Chase Womack and Matthew Waldron in Culinary Math Management, placing 1st. Students won over $92,000 in scholarships combined!  In addition, Chef Worley won the Master Adviser award!

The top winners in each of the national STAR Events competitions will compete in Denver, Colorado at the National Leadership Conference, July 2-6, 2023, against top winners from other state associations.

Congratulations, Comets!
