Kindergarten registration is being conducted at all elementary schools on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 and Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2024, please register the child at the elementary school in your school zone. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate for registration. Halifax County Public Schools will offer Pre-Kindergarten classes for 3 year olds. Please call the central office at (434) 476-2171 to schedule an appointment. Classes will operate during regular school hours. To be eligible for this program, a child must be three years old by September 30, 2024. VDOE - Executive Order 28 - Student and Family Resources Regarding Opioids, Overdoes and Fentanyl. As directed in Governor Youngkin's Executive Order 28, local school divisions must provide informational resources to students, parents, and school personnel on opioid use and abuse to ensure the health and safety of all students in Virginia. Mrs. Moore's PreK students at Meadville Elementary were involved in science experiments. Mrs. McGhee's groups made Magic Milk while Mrs. Moore's groups created clouds.

The HCPS Special Education Department and the Special Education Advisory Council is hosting a Special Education Parent Night on March 18, 2024. It will be held at the PACE Academy, Door C at 5:30 PM.

For three days at the end of January, seventh-grade students took a Learning Quest to space. With the help of three mini-grants from the Halifax Education Foundation, Mrs. Bowers-Stanley, Ms. Hamlett, and Mrs. Mitchell were able to make it happen. Physical science students participated in a STEM activity where they visited stations to create scale models of the solar system and explore the solar system through virtual reality headsets purchased with grant funding. The lesson focused on orbital paths, rotation, measurement, and distance. We would like to thank the Halifax Education Foundation for supporting innovative instruction at HCMS!
