James Rutherford, a Data Center Technician and STEM expert from Microsoft, visited 4th and 5th grade students at Computer Science Summer Camp to explain his career and answer their questions. He was joined by Jeremy Satterfield, Tech Spark Manager at Microsoft, who discussed the benefits of STEM careers and the opportunities available locally and in Boydton, VA.

Families of the Class of 2024,
It is with great anticipation that we prepare for the Class of 2024 commencement ceremony. In order to make the experience a positive one for all, we will need your help. We realize that parking will be a challenge ,and we intend to provide the best experience possible with the parking areas available to us. We will also have security measures in place for all attendees. Please see the pictures for more information about security and parking.
The last day of school for students will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Students at South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 11:00 AM. All other students will dismiss at 11:30 AM.

In Mrs. Stevens's first grade classroom at Cluster Springs Elementary, young learners delved into the solar eclipse phenomenon through an interactive session. They participated in a hands-on project, constructing solar eclipse glasses for the Dash robot using LEGO components. Under the guidance of Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, the students proceeded to program the robot's actions using Blockly, a visual coding platform. The Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) held its 18th Annual SVRTC Technology Awards Banquet at Longwood University on March 14, 2024. Three HCPS staff members were among those receiving awards. Mrs. Allyn Beth Noble, Government DE Teacher at HCHS, received the Technology Teacher Award. Mrs. Cathy Henderson, Coordinator of Assessments and Data Analysis, received the Technology Support Award. Mrs. Ann Tingen, LAN Manager at Sinai Elementary, received the Instructional Technology Support Award. Congratulations on your awards, and thank you for all you do for HCPS!

Halifax County Public Schools will offer Pre-Kindergarten classes for 4 year olds. Your child must be four years old by September 30, 2024 to be eligible. If interested, call the school in your attendance zone to make an appointment for screening. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate, recent immunization records, and proof of income.
Head Start is also accepting applications at this time.
Kindergarten registration is being conducted at all elementary schools on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 and Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2024, please register the child at the elementary school in your school zone. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate for registration.
