The Halifax County School Board recognized three businesses for the VSBA Honor Roll at their meeting on May 8, 2023. The three businesses were Hitachi Energy, Comfort Systems USA, and Dollar General.
The certificates stated, "The Halifax County Public School Board expresses appreciation for your ongoing support of this community's public schools. Your work has aided this community in focusing on the goal of providing the best public schools we can for every child who attends them."




The Halifax County School Board recognized the students of FCCLA along with Chef Worley for their accomplishments at last night's school board meeting. Congratulations to Chef Worley and the students on their awards and scholarships. The students won over $92,000 in scholarships combined! In addition, Chef Worley won the Master Adviser award! The top winners in each of the national STAR Events competitions will compete in Denver, Colorado at the National Leadership Conference, July 2-6, 2023, against top winners from other state associations.

Fifth grade girls at Cluster Springs Elementary School completed the Girls Who Code program. As members of the club, they learned the Girls Who Code technology and computer science curriculum and coded using Scratch and other plugged and unplugged coding activities. The girls read the book, Learn to Code and Change the World. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT and facilitator of the program, presented the girls with certificates to wrap up the year.

At Scottsburg Elementary, kindness was taught during various guidance lessons. Mrs. Christal Woicikowfski, guidance counselor, and Mr. James Conner, art teacher, held a "Kindness" poster contest for students to create and design their own kindness logo. We would like to thank Mr. Forest Layne, art teacher at Halifax County High School, for taking time out of his busy schedule to judge the entries. Students in Ms. Lloyd's 5th grade class at South Boston Elementary enjoyed reviewing the planets in the solar system. They were asked a question, and then flew the drone to land on the planet that answered the question. They enjoyed this fun way of reviewing their science Standards of Learning.
