
Ms. Hollis's kindergarteners at Meadville Elementary made houses after listening to The Three Little Pigs. They built houses using cardboard, Legos, popsicle sticks, tape, and other materials in the STEM cart.

Second graders at Sinai Elementary discussed internet safety and digital citizenship with Mrs. Lewis, ITRT. The students discussed how to make smart choices when using digital devices, being kind and respectful to others online, and how to be safe and responsible online. Being a good digital citizen means being a good friend online and keeping yourself safe while using technology.





Kindergarten registration is being conducted at all elementary schools on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2023, please register the child at the elementary school in your school zone on Thursday, March 23, 2023. You will need to bring your child's birth certificate for registration.

During Read Across America Week, students in Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class at Meadville Elementary used Legos to create hats similar to the one in the book, The Cat in the Hat. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the STEM lesson.








During Read Across America Week, students in Mrs. Stevens's and Mrs. Smith's 1st grade classes at Cluster Springs Elementary used Legos and Wikki Stix to create hats similar to the one in the book, The Cat in the Hat. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the STEM lesson.










Mrs. Smith's and Mrs. Stevens's first graders at Cluster Springs Elementary designed a Cat in the Hat initial pendant using a Tinkercad template shared by Mrs. Elliott, ITRT. The pendant was printed using the 3D printer.











Mrs. DeLeon's PreK students at Cluster Springs Elementary have been learning about the letters "M" and "O." They drew the letters and had the Ozobots follow the lines. They were fascinated at how the lights on the tiny robots were the same color as the marker and learned about coding. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT facilitated the lesson.










Fourth grade students at Scottsburg Elementary have been learning about computer science and coding. Recently students completed unplugged coding activities. When completing these activities, students are using problem-solving skills and computational thinking while learning how to code. Thank you to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation for providing these learning activities.









Students in Mrs. Lipscomb's kindergarten class are learning about coding and computer science. Students are also learning how to successfully code the Beebot robot. Students enjoyed seeing their coding variables being carried out by seeing the Beebot move across its mat.







Schools in Halifax County will have early dismissal tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, 2023. South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 12:30 PM. All other schools will dismiss at 1:00 PM. Elementary schools will hold parent conferences by appointment on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM .

Mrs. Lanham's and Mrs. Bayne's third grade classes have been studying the layers of soil in science class. To end the unit, students got to participate in making Edible Layers of Soil. The students used chocolate chips for the layer of solid rock, chocolate pudding for the layer of subsoil, and crushed Oreos for the layer of topsoil. The class discussed the importance of each layer as they created their Edible Layers of Soil before enjoying their sweet treat!

Students at Sinai Elementary set a goal of collecting 100 canned food items for the 100th day of school. Students in grades Pre-K - 5th reached their goal and more by collecting 735 canned food items. Sinai Elementary shared their Sinai kindness by donating the items to Good Samaritan of South Boston, VA.
