Halifax County Public Schools is planning to operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2025. Our weather team will reevaluate conditions in the morning to see if power has been restored to all of the schools and road conditions are safe. If needed, another alert will be sent in the morning.
Due to the Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect through tomorrow and the forecast of freezing rain, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Twelve-month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.
The Halifax County Middle School Golf Team was recognized at the February 10, 2025 school board meeting. Congratulations, Lions!
At the February 10, 2025 school board meeting, it was announced that Johan Imbachi Lopez would serve as the new school board student representative. Johan is an 11th grader at HCHS. Congratulations, Johan!
Hitachi donated STEM kits to each elementary school , providing hands-on learning opportunities that will inspire young minds in science, technology, engineering, and math.

A Region 8 Transition Fair will be held on March 13, 2025 from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Students and families can engage with community agencies, service providers, and more. This event is open to all families and students with special needs. Please see below for more details.
Halifax County Public Schools' Elementary Gifted Program is currently accepting referrals for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will be assessed using ability tests, a student created portfolio, grades, and work habit characteristics. If you feel your child needs additional enrichment instruction beyond the classroom academic requirements, please contact your child’s teacher to initiate the gifted referral process. The deadline for referrals is February 17, 2025. Students that are currently in the elementary gifted program do not need to reapply. If you have any questions, please contact your school's gifted specialist. Those found eligible to participate in the Elementary Gifted Program will begin gifted services the following school year.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together event, drawings for door prizes took place. If you received a ticket, please review your tickets carefully. On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCMS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!
Please park in the bus parking lot. Doors will open at 5:15 PM.
If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don’t want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!
