Third graders at Clays Mill Elementary wrote messages to send off students into their summer break.






May students of the month learned about different ways to be creative. Creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem. The following students demonstrated creativity during the month of May. Congratulations to the following students:

Mrs. Harvey's science classes used the last few days of school to create watercolor representations of topics they covered in class this year.


During the month of April , the students at Clays Mill Elementary School focused on the Character Strong trait Courage. Students learned that courage means choosing what is helpful, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary. Congratulations to the following students for being named April Students of the Month:

All after school and evening activities have been cancelled for today, Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Thank you to Dan River Baptist Association for the hand-made bags filled with new books for our 2nd graders. Each bag was filled with 13 books that students can add to their home libraries.

Clays Mill Elementary celebrated Earth week April 21-25. Students participated in spirit days all week liked Mixed up Weather day and Recycled accessories day to celebrate and bring awareness to how we can help our planet.




Due to dense fog, Halifax County Public Schools will operate on a one hour delay today, Monday, May 5, 2025. Employees follow code 1, report one hour late.

March students of the month. During the month of March, the students at Clays Mill Elementary School focused on the Character Strong trait Cooperation. Students learned that cooperation is "working together to reach common goal". Congratulations to the following students:

Interim reports for the fourth nine weeks are available for viewing on the Campus Portal. If you need assistance with the portal or need a paper copy of the report, please contact your child's school.

The Title 1 Committee hosted a family literacy night called Bingo for Books. Students and their families enjoyed light refreshments and playing games of bingo together. All students left this event with at least one new Scholastic book. The goal of this event was to encourage families to make reading a daily and enjoyable habit.






Clays Mill congratulates Mr. Nunn and Mr. Daniel for receiving the Teacher of the Year and the Excellence in Service awards, respectively.


In the last several weeks, students enjoyed observing the "LIVE" critters that were living in the library. They experienced ants working to make their tunnels, as well as the changes that a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. It was super fun to watch! This activity was made possible through a grant awarded by the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation.

“Bingo for Books” - Title 1 Spring Family Literacy Night is happening on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Doors open at 5:45 pm, and Bingo is from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in cafeteria. WIN A GAME, PICK A BOOK! Light refreshments will be provided. All CMES students are invited to attend.
Any student that has completed grades PK-5 this school year is invited to participate in Summer Success. There will be fun learning activities with reading, math, and science!

Third graders in Mrs. Powell and Ms. Michelle's class at Clays Mill Elementary wrote recipes for "Peep" s'more. The took home the ingredients for a tasty treat at home.

As a reminder, schools will be closed beginning Monday, April 7, 2025 through Friday, April 11, 2025 for Spring Break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 14, 2025.
