Fifth-grade girls at Cluster Springs Elementary School have completed the Girls Who Code Club with flying colors. During their participation, they immersed themselves in the Girls Who Code tech and computer science curriculum, refining their coding abilities through Scratch and a range of hands-on activities. In addition to their coding explorations, they engaged with the inspiring book "Learn to Code and Change the World." Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT and program facilitator, presented the girls with certificates, celebrating the conclusion of their enriching year-long adventure.

Students at CSES joined Mowgli and his friends to navigate through the jungle while learning about friendship and survival. This production of "The Jungle Book" was performed by The Virginia Repertory Theater on tour. This project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Presidents' Day
Students in Mrs. Tepper's 5th grade classes at Cluster Springs Elementary used their engineering skills and knowledge of circuits to design a Bristle Bot. In this activity, students attached a vibrating motor to a toothbrush head and wired the motor to the battery in order to activate the Bristle Bot. The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Getting Bristley.
