Due to road conditions, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 29th and Friday, January 30th, 2026. These days will be remote learning days for students and work from home days for staff. Maintenance and custodial staff should report both days at 10:00 AM to clear snow. Food will be available for pick up on Friday, January 30th for all Halifax County Public Schools students from 1:00PM to 3:30PM. High school students interested in dental health and science should check out this amazing opportunity. Old Dominion University, the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene, and the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation are offering a FREE Dental Health Summer Institute.
This virtual camp runs June 22 through June 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with an optional in person experience at ODU on June 25. Students will explore dental health careers, connect with faculty, learn about the admissions process, and even receive a free dental lab kit.
All students are welcome to apply, with preference given to under represented students and rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Applications are due by March 9, 2026.

As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCHS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!
Doors will open at 5:15 PM.
If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don't want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!

The digital version of the application and additional information was sent to students by email. Hard copies are also available in the Main Office and Guidance. Students interested in leadership and making an impact are encouraged to apply before the deadline.

We will give the SOLs that have not been tested yet. This includes Earth Science, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and World Geography.
Tuesday
Students who missed a test earlier will take their makeup SOL.
Wednesday
Students who qualify for an Expedite retake will test on this day.
Thursday
We will give both makeup and Expedite tests if students still need them.
Please remind students to bring their fully charged Chromebook and their charger each day they are testing. Being prepared helps the day go smoothly for everyone.
Thank you for your support as we finish testing.
