
Elizabeth “Liz” Huntley is an accomplished litigation attorney, dedicated child
advocate, author and lecturer. Liz is the President and Co-Founder of the Hope
Institute which is an organization in Alabama that helps schools build a culture of
character for their students. She practices law at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC
in Birmingham, Alabama.
Liz serves on multiple civic boards, commissions and tasks forces throughout
Alabama and the country. She regularly speaks to groups throughout the U.S.,
often referencing her own journey as described in her published memoir titled
More Than A Bird.
Liz earned her law degree from the University Of Alabama School Of Law where
she now serves on the Law School Foundation Board of Governors. She received
her undergraduate degree from Auburn University, where she is now a member of
the Auburn University Board of Trustees.
Liz and her husband Tony live in Alabama and have three children.

Big congratulations to our 5th graders! They were recognized for many accomplishments on May 29th! We are so proud of them and wish them continued success at HCMS!






The last day of school for students will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Students at South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 11:00 AM. All other students will dismiss at 11:30 AM.

Danville Community College's 2023 literacy project, sponsored a children's book titled 'Ace the Mighty Conquers Knight School', which delivers a message of grit, perseverance, and determination to children . Faith O'Neil, Director of Public Relations and Marketing for DCC and DCC President Dr. Jerry Wallace, authored the book and came to showcase this book on February 12th. They challenged students at Meadville Elementary to complete a coloring contest featuring the main character of the book. Emma Gentry, 2nd grade student in Mrs. Williams' class, won this contest!! She and her classmates enjoyed a pizza party on May 20, 2024, provided by DCC. Way to go Emma!






Kindergarteners and first graders at Meadville Elementary watched the changes that a ladybug and butterfly go through. They observed them in the classroom, and then released their bugs this week. This was done with a minigrant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation.




Fifth-grade girls from Meadville Elementary School successfully finished the Girls Who Code program. Throughout their time in the club, they explored the Girls Who Code tech and computer science curriculum, honing their coding skills through Scratch and various plugged and unplugged activities. Alongside their coding adventures, they explored the book "Learn to Code and Change the World." Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT and program facilitator, proudly awarded the girls certificates to mark the culmination of their year-long journey.

In Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class at Meadville, the students explored the fascinating journey of a frog's life cycle. They engaged in hands-on learning by programming Bee-Bot to navigate through each stage of the cycle. Guiding them through this interactive session was Mrs. Elliott, ITRT.










Mrs. Hupp’s class created projects made from recycled items for Earth Day.

Meadville announces March Students of the Month: Westin Wynn, Saylor Nichols, Kayden Mosley, Kasiyah Edmonds, Carson Cox, Autumn Hetzell, Zamir Yuille, Emma Wotring, Kyle Doss, and Bryson Lewis


Meadville Elementary celebrated Mrs. Epps today for Administrative Professionals Day! Thank you Mrs. Epps for everything you do for all of us! We love you!


Mrs. Martin’s first grade class enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Danville Science Center last Wednesday. They learned about butterflies and their life cycle, enjoyed a dome show, explored the Thomas the Train exhibit, and had a blast in the Go! room upstairs.
This trip was funded through a mini grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. This mini grant was awarded to Sarah Martin.

Meadville Elementary raised over $1,500 with their recent penny war fundraiser for the Halifax County Cancer Association. Students and staff are excited to participate in the Walk for Hope on May 18th!
