Scottsburg Elementary

Second grade students at Scottsburg Elementary enjoyed hearing the story "First Day Jitters" by Julia Danneberg. After the story, Mrs. Brenda Conner and Mrs. Kelly Fite served magical "Jitter Juice" to help the students calm their anxious and nervous feelings about the first day of school.

Students in Ms. Culley's and Ms. Watts' kindergarten class enjoyed their first day at Scottsburg Elementary. Students were excited to make "First Day of School" hats and display their creations as they wore them during the day to celebrate their first day.

Scottsburg Elementary had an amazing first day of school to start the 2025-2026 school year. As students arrived at school, they were greeted not only by faculty and staff, but also members of the Halifax County High School football team and cheerleaders. Students were all smiles as they walked in to begin another great school year at Scottsburg Elementary.

Wednesday, August 13, 2025 is the first day of school for all PreK, elementary, and HCMS students. HCHS students will return on Monday, August 18, 2025.

On August 7, faculty and staff were so excited to see so many smiling faces during the 2025-2026 Open House. Students and parents had an opportunity to meet their teachers for the upcoming school year. Scottsburg Elementary is ready for the new school year and looking forward to having students come back on August 13.

Halifax County Public Schools has Campus Portal so that parents can be active participants in their child’s academic progress. The Campus Portal is a communication tool that provides you with secure access to your child’s school information. It gives you access to your child’s attendance, schedule, grades, assignments, student to-do list, and behavior.

Staff will be available to help you set up your Campus Portal during Open House.

The faculty and staff of Scottsburg Elementary would like to thank Scottsburg Baptist Church and Piney Grove Baptist Church for providing a "Welcome Back" luncheon on August 4. The delicious food and fellowship was enjoyed by everyone. Scottsburg Elementary greatly appreciates the continued support shown to them from these churches and the community.

New SUN Bucks cards are on the way for automatically enrolled households! Please note that your benefits will not become available on SUN Bucks or SNAP EBT cards until July 18, even if you receive a SUN Bucks card in the mail before that date. Benefits will continue to be issued on a rolling basis, so households can expect to receive their SUN Bucks cards at different times.

School is out, summer meals are in! Halifax County Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. After 27 years with Halifax County Public Schools, Kathy Y. Ambrose bids goodbye as she begins her retirement. Mrs. Ambrose has worked at Clays Mill, Cluster Springs, and the past 16 years at Scottsburg as a Pre-K paraprofessional. She will be greatly missed! CONGRATULATIONS, Mrs. Ambrose!!
