🌸 Spring Clean Your Screens & Check-In Online 🌸
Spring is the perfect time to tidy up your child’s digital world! Just like cleaning a room keeps it healthy and fun, checking in on their online spaces keeps them safe and balanced.

✨ Tech Tip:
Take a few minutes each week to review your child’s apps, websites, and online conversations. Ask who they interact with and which apps they enjoy most. These quick check-ins help you spot issues early and encourage open, positive talk about responsible tech use.

🧹 Family Challenge:
Pick one day this month to “spring clean” together—delete unused apps, update passwords, and refresh privacy settings.

đź’» Remember:
A little digital cleaning now helps your child’s online world stay safe, organized, and positive all year long! 🌼

Students in Mrs. Samantha Bennett's class at Scottsburg Elementary have been learning about plants and what plants need to grow. Students had a chance to get their hands dirty and plant sunflower and sweet pea seeds. Over the next couple of weeks, they will take care of their plants and watch them thrive and grow. Scottsburg Elementary would like to thank Abbott Farm Supply in Halifax, Virginia, for providing all the materials and supplies for this hand-ons experience for our students. Second graders in Ms. Katelyn Freeman's class at Scottsburg Elementary conducted a hands-on science experiment to learn about erosion. Using "Chips Ahoy" cookies to represent land, students explored how natural forces change the Earth’s surface over time. First, they used forks to break apart the cookies, demonstrating how rocks and soil can be loosened. Next, students used straws to blow air across the cookie pieces, simulating the effects of wind erosion. Finally, they carefully poured water over the cookies to represent rainfall and observed how the “land” washed away. The students were excited to see how wind and water can move materials from one place to another. This engaging activity helped them better understand how erosion shapes our environment while making science both fun and memorable.

Excitement had been building at Scottsburg Elementary ever since a huge mystery box was delivered to the gym. Covered up and kept as a surprise, the box had students guessing what could be inside. Some thought it might be a trampoline, a water slide, or even butterfly garden supplies. One fourth grader made the winning guess — a book vending machine! Finally, the wait was over. Students and staff gathered for the big reveal, joined by Dr. Amy Huskins, superintendent. With a student led drumroll filling the gym, Mr. Nathan Lantor, principal, lifted the cover to reveal an amazing new Book Vending Machine for Scottsburg Elementary. The surprise brought lots of excitement and smiles as students celebrated this wonderful new addition to their school.
