Students also had a visit from Mrs. Frizzle and her mad scientists with the Magic School bus loaded with treats for the students. It was another great day at Scottsburg! Elementary.

Scottsburg Elementary students in Ms. Katelyn Freeman's second grade class have been studying states of matter in science. The students had a sweet and fizzy science lesson with Coke and root beer floats to explore the three states of matter—solid, liquid, and gas. Each float became a delicious demonstration. For the solid matter, ice cream was used to represent the solid state. The ice cream held its shape and slowly melted over time. For the liquid matter, the soda (Coke or root beer) was used as the liquid. Students discovered that the liquid flowed freely and mixed with the melting ice cream. For the gas matter, students saw bubbles and fizz form from the carbonation showing the gas state which rose to the top and popped with excitement. The students really enjoyed this sweet treat and hands-on learning.
