Scottsburg Elementary had a great time celebrating Agriculture Week! A special thank you to the Halifax County High School FFA, led by Mr. Don Reese and Ms. Mary Helen Stanley, for working with our second and third graders to make ice cream and share hands-on agricultural learning. We also appreciate Mrs. Lauren Ragsdale from Farm Credit for reading "Farm Boots", written by Lisa H. Detlefsen, to our first graders.

Excitement had been building at Scottsburg Elementary ever since a huge mystery box was delivered to the gym. Covered up and kept as a surprise, the box had students guessing what could be inside. Some thought it might be a trampoline, a water slide, or even butterfly garden supplies. One fourth grader made the winning guess — a book vending machine! Finally, the wait was over. Students and staff gathered for the big reveal, joined by Dr. Amy Huskins, superintendent. With a student led drumroll filling the gym, Mr. Nathan Lantor, principal, lifted the cover to reveal an amazing new Book Vending Machine for Scottsburg Elementary. The surprise brought lots of excitement and smiles as students celebrated this wonderful new addition to their school.

Students in Mrs. Blank's fourth grade class at Scottsburg Elementary have been learning about the phases of the moon. To demonstrate what the different moon phases look like, students used Oreo cookies to model each phase. Once the models were complete and correct, the students then enjoyed eating the phases. It was a sweet and tasty learning experience!

Scottsburg Elementary would like to congratulate Autumn Davis and Joshua Traynham who recently participated in the Halifax County 4-H Presentation Contest held at the Virginia Cooperative Extension - Halifax County Office. Both students placed and have been invited to compete at the 4-H Central District Contest to be held in Farmville, Virginia. The 4-H Presentation Contest is a 4-H based program that helps students use research skills to learn more about a topic of their interest, demonstrate effective communication skills, and build poise and confidence while speaking in front of an audience. We are so proud of Autumn and Joshua for their accomplishment and hard work. We wish them well as they represent Scottsburg Elementary and proceed to the next level of competition. Go Scotties!!

🍀 🌈Finding Digital Gold – Smart Internet Searching🌈🍀

Not everything online is as good as gold — especially on social media! This month, focus on helping your child become a smart digital detective. Teach them to pause, think, and check before they believe or share something they see online.

✨ Tech Tip:
Encourage your child to double-check information by looking at more than one source. Talk about how likes and shares don’t always mean something is true.
For younger learners, guide them to kid-safe websites where they can explore and learn with confidence.

🌐 Helpful Websites:
PBS Kids – www.pbskids.org
National Geographic Kids – www.kids.nationalgeographic.com
Both offer fun, safe, and educational resources and videos for curious minds!

💚 Remember:
When kids learn to question, compare, and verify what they see online, they strike digital gold — building lifelong skills for safe and smart internet use!
