Parents and guardians can use the Absence Request tool to submit a request that informs the office in advance when their student is not going to be in school. After the request is processed, Campus creates an attendance record for the student.
1. On the Campus Portal, click on the main menu icon (3 lines)
2. Click on More and then Absence Request
3. Mark the student for whom you are submitting the absence request.
4. Select the reason the student will be absent from the Excuse dropdown list.
5. Select the Absence Type.

School will be back in session on Wednesday! With more buses, walking students, and excited drivers on Halifax County roads, let’s all do our part to keep our kids and community safe.
Here are a few quick safety reminders for your morning and afternoon commute:

Yellow lights flashing: Slow down and prepare to stop.
Red lights & stop arm extended: Traffic in BOTH directions must come to a complete stop until the arm is retracted.
Railroad crossings: Buses are required by law to stop at all railroad tracks—give them plenty of room!

Students, parents, and staff enjoyed a fun afternoon together while celebrating the joy of reading at the “Popsicles with the Principal” Literacy Event. Students loved cooling off with popsicles, spending time with friends, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and searching for the perfect book to take home and enjoy. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event lots of fun!
The last day of school for students will be Thursday, May 28, 2026. Students at South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 11:00 AM. All other students will dismiss at 11:30 AM.

On Friday, May 22, 2026, Scottsburg Elementary School held its fifth grade promotion ceremony celebrating the elementary journey and achievements. Mr. Nathan Lantor, principal, and Ms. Jessica Roller, fifth grade teacher, presented recognition awards and promotional certificates to the students. Parents, students, and staff enjoyed musical selections by the fifth grade choir and a special duet by Taytum Noblin and Ka'Liyah Johnson under the direction of Mr. Andre Williamson, music teacher. Special congratulations to Laya Thomson for having the overall highest GPA in Reading, Math, and Science, and Ka'Liyah Johnson for the highest GPA in History. Congratulations to all of our fifth graders as they begin their next chapter. We are so proud of you all!
On May 22, 2026, students in Kindergarten through 4th grade at Scottsburg Elementary were recognized during Awards Day. Mr. Nathan Lantor, principal, and teachers honored students for mastering all grade-level skills and for earning All A’s and A/B Honor Roll throughout the school year. Awards for Leadership, Attendance, and Citizenship were also presented. Congratulations to all of our students for their educational achievements, dedication, and hard work. We are so proud of each and every one of you!
At Scottsburg Elementary, Mrs. Clark’s fourth grade class had a great time reading "The Lemonade War" by Jacqueline Davies during reading class. Students enjoyed relaxing outside on a sunny day with lemonade while reading this fun story.
During PE at the Scottsburg Elementary, the gym was transformed into the high seas this week for a legendary game of Pirates of the Caribbean . While some pirates guarded their ships, others ventured out in small boats to gather cannon balls. They then tried their aim to sink the other pirate’s ships. From guarding ships to launching cannonballs, students brought amazing teamwork and energy to the game. Captain Jack Sparrow would be proud!
