Many second graders at Sinai Elementary recently explored the design and engineering process. They worked with partners to build and create using many materials; styrofoam, magnet blocks, Legos, Keva planks, K’Nex and more. Students even worked to create circuits.










First grade students at Sinai Elementary are exploring unplugged coding activities with ITRT, Christie Lewis. This wonderful activity was made possible by a mini grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Thank you to HCPS Education Foundation for your generous donation.




On Friday, kindergarten students at Sinai Elementary participated in a nature scavenger hunt celebrating Earth Day! The students also investigated the differences between living organisms and nonliving objects, and how things change over time.



Sinai Elementary 4th and 5th grade girls recently met for Girls Who Code. Students ate lunch and along with Christie Lewis, ITRT discussed some information from the book "Learn to Code and Change the World" by Reshma Saujani and explored coding using the Indi robot.









Mrs. Lanham's third grade students at Sinai Elementary School took advantage of the beautiful weather and had their science lesson outside. The students enjoyed the fresh air and learning outside of the classroom.


Mrs. Lewis prepared a fun water cycle activity for the third grade students in Mrs. Lanham's class using the Ozobots. The students talked about the water cycle and drew the different parts in the cycle. Then, the students learned about coding and how to make the Ozobots follow through the steps of the water cycle. All of the students had fun learning in this hands-on activity.






Third grade students at Sinai Elementary School in Mrs. Lanham and Mrs. Baynes's class have been studying weather and the water cycle. The students participated in a fun, hands on learning experiment with a "Weather in a Cup" activity. In the activity, shaving cream represented when clouds condense and form. The food coloring was added so that the students could observe the precipitation portion of the water cycle.





Mrs. Lanham's third grade class at Sinai Elementary recently finished studying their unit on ancient Rome. One of the contributions that came from ancient Rome was the mosaic art form. The class ended the unit by creating mosaic works of art for St. Patrick's Day.





Sinai Elementary School's third grade classes recently visited The Prizery to see the performance of Matilda, the Musical. The students enjoy the play very much. This was made possible by the mini grant received from the HCPS Educational Foundation. Thank you so much for this opportunity!



5th graders at Sinai investigated and explored various science topics through the Danville Science Center Outreach Program. They experienced stars through the planetarium. They also created instruments, experimented with motion, and got to see hands-on examples of different types of rocks. Thanks to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation for sponsoring this mini-grant!





Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class are learning about the number 19. The children made bracelets and necklaces out of Cheerios. They had to count out 19 cheerios in order to make their necklace/bracelet.







As a reminder, schools will be closed beginning Monday, April 10, 2023 through Friday, April 14, 2023 for Spring Break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Students in Sinai Elementary's Pre-K 3 and 4 year old classes enjoyed receiving their first delivery of free books, rubber duck reading buddies, and other goodies provided by the Racquets for Reading Program by QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia. QCV raises funds to provide books and fun giveaways to preschoolers in public schools in central and southside Virginia, with the goal of helping build "home libraries" for young children, foster a love of reading, and improve school readiness and reading scores. Thank you Quick Start Tennis of Central Virginia for your generous donation from Sinai Elementary's preschoolers!

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class enjoyed making letters of the alphabet using Wiki Stix and learning cards.




During math time, students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class played Find the Number. This is a hands-on activity for children to build number recognition and counting skills.

Sinai Elementary's 4th graders recently took a field trip to Patrick Henry's Red Hill.
The students were able to take a mini tour of the grounds, engage in Colonial games, visit the Blacksmithing workshop, learn important facts about Patrick Henry, and take a tour of his reconstructed home. At the conclusion of the tour, the students met a living relative of Patrick Henry. Students also visited the Patrick Henry burial site of Patrick Henry and some of his family members. The students enjoyed all the hands-on activities and learned a wealth of information.







Delegate Tommy Wright visited Sinai Elementary and donated a book to the library entitled "Tales of the Dairy Godmother". Delegate Wright also gave students a Virginia House of Delegates Activity Book.
