Yesterday was Nurse Appreciation Day! We want to say that SJES has the best nurse in the county and we appreciate all that she does for us and especially the students. Thank you Nurse Francis for all that you do!

To kickoff SOL's, SJES faculty and staff played dodgeball against the third, fourth, and fifth graders. Faculty and staff won!

Today is cafeteria appreciation day! We would like to give a huge shoutout to our wonderful cafeteria staff. They go above and beyond to make sure that our students are fed and taken care of. Thank you all for all that you do!!!

Students at Sydnor Jennings Elementary School put their spare change toward a cause. They participated in the “pennies are positive” PTO challenge. Students placed pennies in their grade level container for positive points. The grade level with the most points got to spray Principal John Courtney with silly string. The second graders won the challenge.

Mrs. Waller's first grade students have been learning about animals and their habitats. Students were challenged to choose an animal and create a 3D model of their habitat. They were to include anything the animal needs to survive in their habitat.


Ms. Guthrie's 4th grade class takes a virtual field trip to Jamestown.

Visits to the book machine are the best. Miss Nora Hutchins was the first student in her class to visit the book machine.

To close out Reading Across America Week, students dressed up as who or what they want to be when they grew up.


Mrs. Wincey works with the teachers in their classrooms, sharing arts integration strategies, developing lesson plans, and interacting with children. Mrs. Wincey Teaching Artist works directly with educators and their students. Mrs. Wincey demonstrates best practices in arts integration and has coached the teachers as they lead arts-based lessons. This collaborative, hands-on approach ensures that teachers receive effective training for using the arts in their classrooms.
