Gingerbread Escape
Mrs. Smith's 1st graders at Cluster Springs Elementary school participated in the Gingerbread Escape STEM Challenge. After listening to, The Gingerbread Man, students constructed zip lines to help the Gingerbread Man escape. The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Christmas STEM.
Due to light snow and the potential for black ice in some areas of the county, Halifax County Public Schools will operate on a two hour delay today, Monday, December 11, 2023. Twelve month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.

Both of Ms. Hudson's 3rd grade classes at Cluster Springs Elementary participated in the STEM activity, Rudolph Races. The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Christmas STEM.
Ms. Howell's 2nd graders at Cluster Springs Elementary participated in the Shelf for the Elf Challenge. The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Christmas STEM.
All of Mrs. Tepper's 5th grade classes at Cluster Springs Elementary participated in Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code. Students explored coding and artificial intelligence using the Dance Party: AI Edition activity on the Code.org website. Mrs. Elliott, Elementary ITRT, facilitated the lesson.

World Kindness Day is a day to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness for good which binds us. Kindness is a fundamental part of the human condition which bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender, and location.

During the month of September the students at Cluster Springs Elementary School focused on the character strong trait of respect. The students learned that respect is seeing the value in all people and things and treating them with care. A special thank you to Domino’s Pizza for providing our students with a gift for receiving Student of the Month. Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Too many absences can keep students from succeeding in school. If students miss 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent.
