To make a safe attempt at reopening schools, Halifax County Public Schools will implement emergency bus routes beginning Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Food will be available for pick up tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 for all Halifax County Public Schools students. Food will be available at the following sites from 1:00PM to 3:30PM – Cluster Springs Elementary, Scottsburg Elementary, Sinai Elementary, South Boston Elementary, and Sydnor Jennings Elementary. Packets will also be available for elementary students. Students from Clays Mill Elementary should pick up packets at Scottsburg Elementary, and students from Meadville Elementary should pick up packets at Sydnor Jennings Elementary.

High school students interested in dental health and science should check out this amazing opportunity. Old Dominion University, the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene, and the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation are offering a FREE Dental Health Summer Institute.
This virtual camp runs June 22 through June 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with an optional in person experience at ODU on June 25. Students will explore dental health careers, connect with faculty, learn about the admissions process, and even receive a free dental lab kit.
All students are welcome to apply, with preference given to under represented students and rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Applications are due by March 9, 2026.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCHS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!
Doors will open at 5:15 PM.

This leadership opportunity is open to students who will be juniors or seniors next school year and want to represent student voice at the district level. The student representative attends School Board meetings, reviews materials, and shares student perspectives. The position is a one year term and includes a monthly stipend.
The application deadline is 3:30 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026.
The digital version of the application and additional information was sent to students by email. Hard copies are also available in the Main Office and Guidance. Students interested in leadership and making an impact are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
