Students at Meadville Elementary school participated in Christmas STEM challenges. Some of the activities were: Candy Cane Ornaments using Binary Coding, Santa’s Parachute STEM Challenge, the Tallest Tree STEM Challenge, Shelf for the Elf, Rudolph Races, and The Jingle Bell Maze . The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Christmas STEM. Mrs. Waller, LAN Manager, facilitated the STEM lessons.
Winter break for students will be December 23, 2024 - December 31, 2024. The New Year’s holiday is January 1, 2025. January 2, 2025 and January 3, 2025 are professional development/teacher workdays. Students return to school on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class explored numbers using Duplo number mats and Legos. The hands-on activity encouraged students to count and construct numbers up to 10. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the lesson.
Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s Prek class used their fine motor skills and glued various sizes of tissue paper to decorate their Christmas light. They loved doing this and were so excited to see their colorful artwork hanging in the hallway!
Second graders at Meadville Elementary brought holiday magic to life with their performance of The Incredible Reindeer! Under the direction of Dr. Duncan and Mrs. Williams, the production dazzled the audience with its creativity, humor, and heartwarming charm.
Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class at Meadville Elementary assisted in lighting up Santa's tree through a creative and interactive activity. They decorated the tree using markers and programmed it to light up as an Ozobot traveled along its surface. The engaging lesson was led by Mrs. Elliott, the school’s ITRT.
Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class enjoyed their last day at the Prizery. They have been going for the past five weeks and each week was a new experience. Today they danced to several Christmas songs and decorated their own Christmas tree. Needless to say they are thoroughly going to miss Ms. Laura and Ms. Emily!
Meadville SCA is sponsoring a Toy Drive!
Mrs. Fowlkes's third grade students built the six simple machines using the LEGO Briq kits. Then they used the LEGO Spike kit to construct a car and coded it to move. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the lesson.

During STEAM class, students viewed short videos exploring the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the creation of its iconic balloons. Afterwards, they designed their own paper balloons, which were attached to Ozobots. We then hosted our own "Balloons Over Broadway" parade on paper streets modeled after the parade route in New York City.
Second grade students enjoyed a program on Powhatan Indians from Jamestown Outreach.
Students enjoyed the Revolutionary War Presentation from Jamestown Outreach.
