
Students at Meadville Elementary School had a ghastly good time creating their fa-BOO-lous edible haunted houses. During STEAM class they designed, constructed and decorated their houses....and maybe snacked a little too!








“A leaf hunting we shall go”, Mrs. Hupp’s class enjoyed a nice afternoon leaf hunt on Monday. The students found many sizes and shapes to take with them for their leaf sketch.





First grade went on a field trip to Owen Farm October 23rd. This was funded by Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation.









The GO TEC Mobile Lab visited Meadville Elementary School. Jacob Taylor, GO TEC Technical and Training Manager, provided hands-on robotics activities for fourth and fifth graders. Students were shown how technology, robotics and automation could be helpful in future careers.









Kindergarteners in Ms. Hollis's class at Meadville have been working on numbers and counting objects up to 10. During this activity, students had to count the pictures on a card, find the number to match the amount counted, and land the drone on the correct number.








Hitachi Energy presented Halloween goodie bags to the PK-3rd students at Meadville Elementary to promote Halloween safety.





Meadville Kindergarteners went to Owen Farm. They each received their own pumpkin from the farm, saw many animals, and went on a ride around the farm. This trip was funded by a Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation mini grant.

Mrs. Martin's first graders at Meadville Elementary created Spooky Patterns. The Ozobot's light changed colors to match the pattern. The activity was facilitated by Susan Elliott, ITRT.











Mrs. Williams' 2nd grade students recently completed their habitat unit in science. Students chose a habitat to research and created a diorama of the habitat with living and nonliving things. They presented the projects to their peers. Pictured are the students with their habitat projects.

Meadville Elementary School's Student Council Association (SCA) sponsored a pet food drive in support of the Halifax Dog Squad. Meadville students collected pet food, treats and peanut butter for the foster dogs. Our third grade students collected the most donations and were surprised with a visit from Halifax Dog Squad representatives Vicky Allen, Laura Larkins, and three foster puppies. SCA would like to thank all of the students for participating in our first community service project.





Students at Meadville Elementary enjoyed breakfast with their Grandparents on Wednesday morning. Students and their families also had the opportunity to shop at the Book Fair. We had a great turnout, and fun was had by all!










Today, October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. Ms. Hollis's kindergarten class rotated through STEAM Stations and created A, B patterns.











As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed Monday, October 9, 2023 in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.


Mrs. Williams' second grade class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by reading about him and identifying the theme of the fictional text. They also followed the steps of the scientific method by creating a hypothesis statement and experimenting with what happens when you mix apples, water, cinnamon, butter and sugar and add it to a heat source. Students made observations about states of matter during the experiment and concluded that the final product was applesauce!









Mrs. Hupp’s kindergarten class celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on Tuesday. The children enjoyed tasting 5 different types of apples during the week. The winning flavor was a tie between Honey Crisp and Ambrosia🍎


Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.


Mrs. Hupp’s kindergarten class reviewed shapes and described them by using toothpicks and marshmallows. The children enjoyed more marshmallows after the activity.
