
Students at Meadville Elementary enjoyed breakfast with their Grandparents on Wednesday morning. Students and their families also had the opportunity to shop at the Book Fair. We had a great turnout, and fun was had by all!










Today, October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. Ms. Hollis's kindergarten class rotated through STEAM Stations and created A, B patterns.











As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed Monday, October 9, 2023 in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.


Mrs. Williams' second grade class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by reading about him and identifying the theme of the fictional text. They also followed the steps of the scientific method by creating a hypothesis statement and experimenting with what happens when you mix apples, water, cinnamon, butter and sugar and add it to a heat source. Students made observations about states of matter during the experiment and concluded that the final product was applesauce!









Mrs. Hupp’s kindergarten class celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on Tuesday. The children enjoyed tasting 5 different types of apples during the week. The winning flavor was a tie between Honey Crisp and Ambrosia🍎


Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.


Mrs. Hupp’s kindergarten class reviewed shapes and described them by using toothpicks and marshmallows. The children enjoyed more marshmallows after the activity.






To practice subitizing, kindergarteners in Ms. Hollis' class played this game. They had to spin the spinner and cover up a representation of that number. Each team tried to get 4 in a row.





AFTERNOON CAR RIDER ANNOUNCEMENT: Parents/guardians please be reminded to enter the first entrance (near the marquee) and follow the established traffic pattern to pick up your students. Also, please remember to have your orange card ready in the pickup line. Thank you so much for your help with this.

Attendance Matters!
Did you know If a student is absent 10% or more of the school year, it is considered chronic absenteeism? Ten percent is 18 days per school year or an average of two days a month.

5th graders built towers to compare tall towers vs. strong towers in teams during the first week of school.

In honor of International Dot Day, students listened to a reading of "The Dot" during STEAM class. Students then made their own marks using coffee filters, markers, and water. Younger students created dot artwork with coloring sheets and paint sticks.






Meadville Elementary School's Student Council Association is excited to kick-off their first community service project of the 2023-24 school year. Students will be collecting pet food in support of the Halifax Dog Squad. Pictured are 2022-23 SCA officers Mila Conner and Renee Hackney, as they get students excited about giving back to the community! The pet food drive will run from Sept. 18th- Sept. 29th.
