Meadville Elementary School's Student Council Association (SCA) sponsored a pet food drive in support of the Halifax Dog Squad. Meadville students collected pet food, treats and peanut butter for the foster dogs. Our third grade students collected the most donations and were surprised with a visit from Halifax Dog Squad representatives Vicky Allen, Laura Larkins, and three foster puppies. SCA would like to thank all of the students for participating in our first community service project.

Mrs. Williams' second grade class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by reading about him and identifying the theme of the fictional text. They also followed the steps of the scientific method by creating a hypothesis statement and experimenting with what happens when you mix apples, water, cinnamon, butter and sugar and add it to a heat source. Students made observations about states of matter during the experiment and concluded that the final product was applesauce!

Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023. The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
