Microsoft employees shared their career journeys, answered student questions, and sparked serious tech excitement. Students got an inside look at: 🖥️ Data centers, 🔌 IT roles & responsibilities, 🧩 Servers, components & what it really takes to keep systems running! Kristin Vaughan, Teresa Downey, and Mike Wilson of Microsoft organized the event and coordinated with Susan Elliott, ITRT, to finalize plans. 🎉💻 The Girls Who Code Club at Meadville Elementary has officially wrapped up—and what an amazing journey it’s been! 🙌👩💻
Throughout the program, these young coders dove into the Girls Who Code tech & computer science curriculum, sharpening their skills with Scratch and a variety of fun, hands-on activities. 🔧✨
They also explored the empowering book "Learn to Code and Change the World," reminding them that their ideas and voices matter in tech! 💡🌍
A huge shoutout to Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT and program facilitator, who proudly presented certificates to each participant—marking the end of this exciting chapter and the beginning of so many more! 🎓💫

🌕🌑 *Oreo Moon Phases Lab: 5th Graders Explore the Wonders of the Moon!* 🌑🌕
Our 5th graders had a blast today as they explored the phases of the moon using Oreos! They got to create and understand the different phases of the moon (new moon, crescent, first quarter, gibbous, and full moon) by removing the creme of the Oreo and turning them into mini models. It was a fun and delicious way to bring science to life!
First graders went on a field trip to Aqua Zoo in Lynchburg. They were able to see, feed, and pet many different animals.
🌞🔋 Bright ideas in action! 5th grade students built solar-powered houses to explore the power of the sun! ☀️🏠 They wired their creations with conductive tape, LEDs, and even a motor, bringing their designs to life. ⚡🔧

Students at Meadville Elementary School wrapped up our Read-a-Thon this week, and our top reader was Saylor Nichols in Kindergarten. Saylor read a total of 180 minutes. Way to go!
Ms. Sidney's class is learning all about plants this week. What better way to learn about them when you can plant them yourself? The kiddos had so much fun doing this activity.
Fourth grade students to a step back in time visiting historic Red Hill. Liberty's Path: Journey to Red Hill was funded by a grant from the HCPS Education Foundation.
As a reminder, tomorrow, Friday, March 14, 2025 is a professional development day for staff. Students do not attend school.
Field trip fun!!! 🌟 Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Hill City Aqua Zoo in Lynchburg this week. They were able to feed all kinds of fish 🐟, pet a bearded lizard🦎, and observe a variety of animals 🦘🐷🦈 🐔 throughout the day. These kiddos had a blast, and were exhausted by the end of the day!

At the school board meeting on Monday, March 10, 2025, the board voted to convert Thursday, March 20, 2025, to a full instructional day for students.
To wrap up the last two days with Wolf Trap our PreK students used their imagination and went swimming in the river 💦 and went on a nature walk 🥾. They used their cameras 📷 to take pictures of all the animals they saw while hiking through the woods 🐟 . They loved these activities! Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s students thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Val visiting with them this week!!
🚗💨 Balloon-powered cars in action! Our students put their engineering skills to the test, designing and racing vehicles powered by air pressure. Through this hands-on experiment, they explored the principles of force and motion. Science has never been this fun! The purchase of materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Igniting Curiosity: Exploring Force and Motion Through Balloon-Powered Cars. Mrs. Waller, LAN Manager, facilitated the activity. 🎈⚙️ #STEMLearning #ForceAndMotion #HandsOnScience
