Meadville SCA is sponsoring a Toy Drive!

Mrs. Fowlkes's third grade students built the six simple machines using the LEGO Briq kits. Then they used the LEGO Spike kit to construct a car and coded it to move. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the lesson.

As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 through Friday, November 29, 2024 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
We hope you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

During STEAM class, students viewed short videos exploring the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the creation of its iconic balloons. Afterwards, they designed their own paper balloons, which were attached to Ozobots. We then hosted our own "Balloons Over Broadway" parade on paper streets modeled after the parade route in New York City.

Second grade students enjoyed a program on Powhatan Indians from Jamestown Outreach.

Students enjoyed the Revolutionary War Presentation from Jamestown Outreach.

October Students of the Month are: Greyson Ferrell, Jace Cole, Konnor Fuller, Annelise Adams, Andraya Clark, Jagger Ferguson, Anna Traynham, Maverick Franco, Wes Adams, Tate Dickey, and Sophia Woosley

Mrs. Martin’s Pre-k class listened to the story Turkey Trouble. It was about a turkey who disguised himself as different animals so he would not be eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. The students then used playdoh, popsicle sticks, and googly eyes to create their own turkeys. They LOVED this and asked to do it again next week!

Ms. Martin's 5th grade class created musical instruments to demonstrate their knowledge of sound. The instruments were made of household items and created 3 different frequencies of sound.

First graders finished a week of fractions. They took pizza orders from teachers at Meadville and then made the pizzas based on the orders. Then they delivered them.

Meadville Elementary had a fun week full of Forestry, Police and Fire trucks! Huge thank you to Virginia Department of Forestry, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, Oak Level Fire Department, and Halifax County Sheriff's Office for coming and letting our kiddos experience these incredible agencies in a different light. Students loved petting Gus (the tracking dog), meeting Smokey, and learning how to control fires! They even got to spray water from the trucks!!! A great time was had by all!

Teachers at Meadville Elementary School participated in an immersive professional development session focused on Class VR. This informative session provided motivated educators with innovative strategies to enhance student learning through virtual reality. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, led the training.

The members of the Girls Who Code Club at Meadville Elementary proudly received swag from the Girls Who Code Program. Each girl received a vibrant t-shirt, sticker, and notebook. The club actively follows the Girls Who Code curriculum along with the inspiring book, Learn to Code and Change the World. The club is guided by their facilitator, Susan Elliott, ITRT.

Ms. Hollis's and Ms. McLamb's first grade students practiced addition up to 10 with a turkey-themed twist, landing a drone on answers marked by colorful turkeys. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, guided the festive lesson. The activity brought a fun, seasonal flair to math practice, keeping students excited and engaged.

Mrs. Hupp, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Woosley’s kindergarten classes had a great day at The Junction. The student’s enjoyed finding items on the ride through the pumpkin patch, taking a walk through the corn maze, and especially being outside with all the fun activities !

As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed Monday, November 11, 2024 in observance of Veterans Day.

Meadville wore blue for diabetes awareness month! Thank you Mrs. Sims for providing our school with balloons to celebrate!

Prizery fun day two! The PreK students in Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s class are loving the Prizery! During story/movement time they discussed feelings and what it meant to be happy/sad/angry. Then they use eggs shakers and colored scarves and danced to a few songs. The art session today was a big hit, as they were able to use oil pastels to draw on canvases with Ms. Emily.

Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class has several hands-on centers for the week. This week they are learning all about the letter P, using stickers for fine motor practice, and learning how to trace/write the first letter in their name. They are doing great and becoming more independent!

This week Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class discussed patterns. They learned that patterns repeat and did a few movement patterns together on the carpet. The students then went back to their seats and worked on creating patterns. They had such a great time!
