
It is time to begin registration for the 25-26 school year. A registration kickoff night has been planned for students in grades 5-11 as well as parents of those students in grades 5-11!
SAVE THE DATE (February 4, 2025 from 5:30-7:00 PM) on your calendar for our special event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together.
This night will include a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered two times that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
This night is going to be very informative and exciting for all!

Hey students! Are there any aspiring chefs out there? Well, you can showcase your skills by participating in the upcoming Future Chefs culinary competition! Fill out an entry form with your recipe showcasing “YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE FROM HOME OR FAMILY RECIPE,” and you’ll be in the running to compete in a live competition at Halifax County High School on March 4, 2025. One student grades 1-5 will be chosen from each school. Check in the cafeteria or ask your teacher for entry forms and more details. As an added bonus, the winner of this event will have their recipe entered into a National Competition, with the chance to win even more great prizes!

Due to the forecasted weather and the Winter Storm Warning, Halifax County Public Schools will dismiss early tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025. South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 12:30 PM. All other schools will dismiss at 1:00 PM.


Second nine weeks report cards are available for viewing on the parent portal. If you need a paper copy of the report card, please contact your child's school.


How Tall Is Meadville? Meadville students, school-wide, were able to make an ornament to surprise their parents with for Christmas. Students measured how tall they were using Christmas colored ribbon and placed the ribbon in an ornament. The ornaments were wrapped for giving to someone special at home. This project was sponsored by a mini-grant through the Halifax County Education Foundation.











First graders participated in Christmas Olympics. Students hand candy cane activities, silent jingle bell races, snowball pick up and turned friends into Christmas trees.











Due to bitter cold temperatures and remaining black ice, HCPS will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Twelve-month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.

Students at Meadville Elementary school participated in Christmas STEM challenges. Some of the activities were: Candy Cane Ornaments using Binary Coding, Santa’s Parachute STEM Challenge, the Tallest Tree STEM Challenge, Shelf for the Elf, Rudolph Races, and The Jingle Bell Maze . The purchase of STEM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Christmas STEM. Mrs. Waller, LAN Manager, facilitated the STEM lessons.

Winter break for students will be December 23, 2024 - December 31, 2024. The New Year’s holiday is January 1, 2025. January 2, 2025 and January 3, 2025 are professional development/teacher workdays. Students return to school on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class explored numbers using Duplo number mats and Legos. The hands-on activity encouraged students to count and construct numbers up to 10. Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the lesson.









Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s Prek class used their fine motor skills and glued various sizes of tissue paper to decorate their Christmas light. They loved doing this and were so excited to see their colorful artwork hanging in the hallway!










Second graders at Meadville Elementary brought holiday magic to life with their performance of The Incredible Reindeer! Under the direction of Dr. Duncan and Mrs. Williams, the production dazzled the audience with its creativity, humor, and heartwarming charm.











Mrs. Hupp's kindergarten class at Meadville Elementary assisted in lighting up Santa's tree through a creative and interactive activity. They decorated the tree using markers and programmed it to light up as an Ozobot traveled along its surface. The engaging lesson was led by Mrs. Elliott, the school’s ITRT.









Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class enjoyed their last day at the Prizery. They have been going for the past five weeks and each week was a new experience. Today they danced to several Christmas songs and decorated their own Christmas tree. Needless to say they are thoroughly going to miss Ms. Laura and Ms. Emily!
