Halifax County Public Schools is planning to operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2025. Our weather team will reevaluate conditions in the morning to see if power has been restored to all of the schools and road conditions are safe. If needed, another alert will be sent in the morning.

Due to the Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect through tomorrow and the forecast of freezing rain, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Twelve-month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.


Hitachi donated STEM kits to each elementary school , providing hands-on learning opportunities that will inspire young minds in science, technology, engineering, and math.


Due to the impending weather, HCPS will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Twelve-month employees follow Code 0, do not report to work.


A Region 8 Transition Fair will be held on March 13, 2025 from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Students and families can engage with community agencies, service providers, and more. This event is open to all families and students with special needs. Please see below for more details.

Using class VR goggles, they explored a Medieval Castle in France, a Middle Age Castle, and even witnessed a castle under siege! From towering portcullises to deep moats, grand inner courtyards, and fortified walls, they got an up-close look at the incredible features that made these castles so fascinating. Halifax County Public Schools' Elementary Gifted Program is currently accepting referrals for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will be assessed using ability tests, a student created portfolio, grades, and work habit characteristics. If you feel your child needs additional enrichment instruction beyond the classroom academic requirements, please contact your child’s teacher to initiate the gifted referral process. The deadline for referrals is February 17, 2025. Students that are currently in the elementary gifted program do not need to reapply. If you have any questions, please contact your school's gifted specialist. Those found eligible to participate in the Elementary Gifted Program will begin gifted services the following school year.

Ms. Martin's 5th graders estimated and measured various items using metric units: length (millimeters, centimeters, and meters), mass (grams and kilograms), and liquid volume (milliliters and liters).

Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McGhee’s PreK class has been learning numbers 0-10. This week they practiced writing numbers on whiteboards using dry erase markers. They really enjoyed this activity!










This week in STEAM, kindergarten students at Meadville Elementary dove into hands-on learning by exploring shadows! 🌟 With the help of Mrs. Waller, LAN Manager, and Mrs. Elliott, ITRT, students experimented, created, and discovered the science behind light and shadows in a fun and interactive way. 🌞✨ #STEAMLearning #HandsOnLearning #CuriousMinds










On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCMS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!
Please park in the bus parking lot. Doors will open at 5:15 PM.
If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don’t want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!

Looking for the next future chef!
If you are in grades 1-5 and interested in cooking, please submit your favorite recipe by January 31, 2025 for a chance to be the next future chef!


Students in Ms. Martin’s 5th grade class at Meadville Elementary used their engineering skills and knowledge of circuits to design a Bristle Bot. In this activity, students attached a vibrating motor to a brush and wired the motor to the battery in order to activate the Bristle Bot. The purchase of STEAM materials was funded through a Mini-Grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Mini-Grant was awarded to Mrs. Susan Elliott, Elementary ITRT, for the project titled: Getting Bristley. Mrs. Waller, LAN Manager, facilitated the lesson.

January 27 - 31 is WELLNESS WEEK!
Meadville Panthers will be participating in “Wellness Week” in collaboration with the American Heart Association. Mrs. Johnson, our cafeteria monitor will be our Honored Heart Hero!! Our goals are to raise $1,500.00 and have at least HALF of the school register online! It’s super easy - just scan the QR code on the flyer. No purchase necessary. There are also lots of activities for the week. During Wellness Week we will have a daily color to wear for our focus:
1/27 Monday - Blue
1/28 Tuesday - Yellow
1/29 Wednesday - Green
1/30 Thursday - Orange or Purple
1/31 Friday - Red
You are welcome to raise money online but it is NOT required. Online registration is only for challenge purposes. Homerooms will take part in the Fill Your Heart Challenge where students can purchase stickers to fill their classroom heart. (50 cent each) Any student who completes Finn’s Mission will get to participate in the Lifesaver Parade.
