As a reminder, Friday, April 3, 2026 is a full instructional day for students.

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, fifth-grade students from each of our elementary schools and members of the Halifax County Middle School chorus joined together to present the Halifax County Public Schools Music Showcase at the high school. Our talented students performed several selections to show how we are “United Through Music” for Music in Our Schools Month. This was possible due to the collaboration of our elementary, middle, and high school music teachers.

The HCMS After-school Program will meet on the following dates starting at 3:10 PM: March 26th, March 31st, and April 2nd. Student dismissal from the after-school program is at 5:00 PM for car riders and 5:20 PM for activity bus riders.

Report cards for the third nine weeks are available for viewing on the Campus Portal. If you need assistance with the portal or need a paper copy of the report, please contact your child’s school.

HCMS Parent-Teacher Conferences
We invite you to schedule a conference with your child’s teachers to discuss their academic progress. Conferences can be arranged before school, after school, and during teacher planning blocks. As a reminder, tomorrow, Thursday, March 19, 2026 is a full instructional day. Students attend school all day.

Due to widespread power outages and potential road conditions, Halifax County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, March 17, 2026. Twelve-month employees follow code 2, report two hours late.

Due to the threat of severe storms and the potential for tornadoes, Halifax County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2026. Twelve-month employees should follow Code 0, do not report to work.

Due to inclement weather, all after school and evening activities are cancelled for today, Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Please plan to join us on March 31, 2026 at 6:30 PM at HCHS. In addition to the hands-on sessions, Tracy Quackenbush Martin, Commonwealth's Attorney for Halifax County, will also speak that evening about internet safety.

Reminders

Students in Mr. Berkley's Make It Your Business class had the opportunity to visit Hitachi on Thursday, February 19th. While there, students participated in a panel discussion with HCPS alumni, learning about their path to Hitachi, post graduation, as well as their growth within the company. Students were also able to participate in a shop floor walk to understand the manufacturing process within the transformer industry. Students were engaged and were able to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of all the amazing opportunities at Hitachi. Special thanks to Mrs. Rebecca Saunders, training and development leader, and her team for providing this opportunity to our students.





HCMS students visit Longwood University. They participated in a campus tour, talked with an admissions counselor, and Professor David Zirkle gave the students a quick glimpse into college economics with an interactive activity.

Sixth-grade students from Mrs. Lesley Cole-Swanson's U.S. History I Classes toured the Virginia 250 Mobile Museum's Crossing of the Dan. Students learned about other significant contributions that Virginians have made to American History. In addition, students toured the Art Exhibit, featuring artwork by Kat Bradshaw, and completed a reflection about their experience.

The Halifax County School Board voted last night to make the originally scheduled early release dates of March 19, 2026 and April 3, 2026 full instructional days.
