Halifax County Middle School 2023-2024 FBLA officers are Tyson Hall, president; Trevin Snead, vice-president; Anthony Wilkerson, secretary; and Max Jones, historian.
Mr. Layne’s 6th grade art classes created humorous animal paintings inspired by the work of artist George Rodrigue and his Blue Dog paintings. Some of Mr. Layne’s other classes just completed a cross-curricular assignment blending art and math. The students created and painted icosahedrons - twenty-sided geometric shapes.
Ms. Coles/Mrs. Holden/Ms. Warren's 6th,7th, & 8th grade classes went on a Community Based Instruction (CBI) trip on October 13th to The Junction pumpkin patch in Buffalo Junction, VA. Students in all classes were able to participate in a “I Spy" hayride, pumpkin picking, and other activities at The Junction.
Today, October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
To celebrate National Yearbook week (Oct. 2-6), we will be selling yearbooks in the lobby during each lunch. We will be running a special price for this week of $35. Quantities are limited so make sure to reserve yours!
The HCMS Girls Who Code club is back! There will be coding, data, artificial intelligence, robots, apps, and more. If your child is interested in joining Girls Who Code this year, they can come by the HCMS main office to sign-up & get a permission form. Please contact Mrs. Bowers-Stanley with any questions.
Too many absences can keep students from succeeding in school. If students miss 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent.

Did you know If a student is absent 10% or more of the school year, it is considered chronic absenteeism? Ten percent is 18 days per school year or an average of two days a month.
