HCMS does NOT collect all student Chromebooks and chargers at the end of the school year.
However, students are asked to return devices if:
1) If a student will not be attending HCMS or HCHS during the next school year, they are asked to turn in their Chromebook & charger before or on their last day of attendance.
2) If a student has a broken device that needs to be fixed over the summer, they are asked to turn in their Chromebook & charger before or on their last day of attendance.
3) If a student or parent is uncomfortable with the student keeping the Chromebook over the summer, they are asked to turn in their Chromebook & charger before or on their last day of attendance.
*Due to SOL testing, we ask that those items be returned to the Library before 8:30 am or after 2:30 pm.

📱 Spring SOL Testing Begins!
During May, Halifax County Middle School will administer Spring SOL tests for grades 6-8. The daily testing schedule is now posted on our school website (Click here for the schedule). Please help your student prepare by ensuring that they do the following:
Power Up: Charge your Chromebook every night. You need a 100% charge to ensure your test doesn't get interrupted.
Gear Up: Bring your charger with you, just in case!
Level Up: Get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast. Your brain needs fuel to perform at its best.

Theatre students at Halifax County Middle School took a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy. Mrs. Bowers-Stanley, ITRT, collaborated with Ms. White’s eighth-grade Theatre classes and Mrs. Mitchell, Librarian, to implement a unit on AI ethics. In this unit, student groups learned about ethical concerns in AI use, researched an AI ethical issue, and wrote & produced short films to generate awareness. These films were then showcased in an AI Ethics Film Festival for our 8th-grade student body. The AI Ethics Film Festival included viewing the films along with completing feedback scorecards and reflection questions. With the help of two mini-grants from the Halifax Education Foundation, Mrs. Bowers-Stanley and Mrs. Mitchell were able to purchase digital cameras and filming supplies to make the vision a reality. Two films were produced during the first semester, and more are expected in the future. We thank the Halifax Education Foundation for its continued support of innovative instruction at HCMS!

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, fifth-grade students from each of our elementary schools and members of the Halifax County Middle School chorus joined together to present the Halifax County Public Schools Music Showcase at the high school. Our talented students performed several selections to show how we are “United Through Music” for Music in Our Schools Month. This was possible due to the collaboration of our elementary, middle, and high school music teachers.
