Ms. Roller's fifth grade students at Scottsburg Elementary studied the energy of sound. They learned that sound is a form of energy produced and transmitted by vibrating matter. Students learned about frequency, wavelength, pitch, and amplitude. They learned that sound travels quicker through solid than liquid or glass; and that some animals make and hear differently than humans make and hear sound. While completing their unit on sound, students created musical instruments that could make three different pitches of sound.

At Scottsburg Elementary, kindness was taught during various guidance lessons. We would like to thank Mr. Forest Layne, art teacher at Halifax County High School, for taking time out of his busy schedule to judge the entries. Pictured are winners from each grade level.
