Sinai Elementary School recently held a fundraiser for the 2024 Walk MS Support for Muscular Sclerosis. Sandy Oakes, Administrative Assistant at Sinai Elementary is shown presenting Karen Smith with $417 collected at Sinai. Sinai Elementary is very proud to support this worthy cause.
Sinai Elementary students had a super day at the Saturday Learning Academy recently held at Sinai Elemenatary. Students enjoyed doing various hands on activities as well as reviewing skills.
Students in Mrs. Dailey's ECSE class had fun making their Read Across America activity. Students used goldfish bowls made out of paper plates and water colors to create their own Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat gold fish bowl. Students used goldfish crackers in their bowl with the big gold fish almost escaping!
Sinai Elementary recognizes students in each grade level for their progress in reading and using good reading strategies and habits in the classroom in the Soaring Eagles Reader of the Month Program. Each student received a certificate of achievement for their hard work.
Sinai’s 5th graders dissected flowers. They used their knowledge from 4th grade to find and remove the stem, sepals, petals, stamen, pistil, ovary, and pollen grains of each flower. As they discovered each part, they discussed the function for each.
Sinai Scientists in Ms. Ragland's fourth grade class recently learned about the different cloud types. Students completed their own clouds showing each type of cloud and were able to discuss the different types of weather associated with each cloud type.
Sinai Scientists in Mrs. Baynes and Ms. Snead classes completed a computer science activity with second graders using text features. They had to figure out which text feature was on each number on the challenges in order to find out what color mats they needed to use. Once they found out the correct text features and placed the color mats in the correct order, they placed the Indi Car to see if it went in the direction it was supposed to go. Students enjoyed completing this hands on activity.

Kindergarten registration is being conducted at all elementary schools on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 and Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2024, please register the child at the elementary school in your school zone. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate for registration.

In celebration of Read Across America Day, Sinai Elementary School students enjoyed a day filled with fun, reading and several sightings of the Cat in the Hat! Sinai would like to thank our guest readers including Central Office staff, NAACP, Halifax Soil and Water Conservation, Wolftrap Residency, parents and other community individuals.
Students in Ms. Brockenbury's 5th grade class investigated plate tectonics and boundaries. They used frosting and graham crackers to demonstrate convergent, divergent, and transform plate boundaries. This also gave them a visual to see which boundaries create mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes.

VDOE - Executive Order 28 - Student and Family Resources Regarding Opioids, Overdoes and Fentanyl.
As directed in Governor Youngkin's Executive Order 28, local school divisions must provide informational resources to students, parents, and school personnel on opioid use and abuse to ensure the health and safety of all students in Virginia.

Sinai students and staff were shining bright in neon colors or sparkles to demonstrate that "Kindness Shines".
Sinai students and staff enjoyed "Rounding Up Kindness" by wearing their favorite western wear.
Sinai Scientists in Mrs. Davis and Ms. Emerson's third grade class conducted an experiment to learn about The Water Cycle. During the experiment, the students learned the four components of the water cycle along with the sun is the "star" of the water cycle. During this experiment the students used plastic cups, ice cubes, thermometers, and water to make predictions about the condensation that formed on the outside of the cup. Each step was timed, and each time the students were able to revise their predictions from what they learned from their previous results.
Students and Staff Members at Sinai Elementary enjoyed celebrating Virginia's Kindness Week. They received kindness stickers, kindness bracelets, free ice cream, and Kindness Candy Grams. There were different spirit days each day, and they participated in a Kindness Challenge. The winners of the Student Kindness Challenge (pictured below) received several prizes, such as kindness earbuds, kindness stickers, kindness brag tags, and kindness crayons or markers. The Grand Prize winner of the Staff Member Kindness Challenge was Darlene Ragland. She won the lovely gift basket of goodies donated by 1st Care at Home. We thank and appreciate them for their awesome donation. Thanks to all the students and staff members for spreading Sinai kindness!
Sinai Scientists in Ms. Ragland's fourth grade class have recently been learning about the four moon phases. Students learned about the relationship beteween the moon phases and the tide cycle. Upon completion of their unit on the moon phases students used vanilla and chocolate cookies to complete an activity showing the four phases of the moon.
