
The students in Mrs. Dailey's ECSE classroom participated in a Christmas story, "Merry Christmas Mouse!". As the teacher read the story each student took a turn to count and place the item on the board.










As a reminder, students will be dismissed early on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Students from South Boston Early Learning Center and South Boston Elementary School will dismiss at 11:00 AM. All other students will dismiss at 11:30 AM. Winter break for students will be December 22, 2023 - December 29, 2023. The New Year's holiday is January 1, 2024. January 2, 2024 and January 3, 2024 are professional development/teacher workdays. Students return to school on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

To conclude their unit on light, Sinai's 5th graders used flashlights and mirrors to make the light reflect. Their goal was to hit the target with the light using different amounts of mirrors.











Students at Sinai Elementary were recognized for achieving Perfect Attendance during the month of November. Each student received a certificate and a prize.


Students in Mrs. Rutherford's class went on a field trip to Sea Quest in Lynchburg thanks to a mini-grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The students learned about all types of animals with a hands-on approach. They were able to pet the animals and learn more about each animal's natural habitat.






A New Adventure in Coding at Sinai! In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Mrs. Bowes' and Ms. Snead's 2nd grade class embarked on an exciting Hour of Code activity. Orchestrated by Mrs. Lewis, ITRT, this engaging session introduced our students to the foundational 'Hello World!' programming experience. This wasn't just an introduction to coding; it was the opening of a doorway to endless possibilities in computer science. The second graders quickly grasped basic coding concepts.









PK3 students in Ms. Terry's class at Sinai Elementary recently visited the STEM lab to make handmade holiday ornaments. Students used bells, buttons, pom poms and glitter to decorate their ornaments.











Students from Sinai Elementary PK program recently visited the Marble's Museum and Sea Quest. Students enjoyed seeing all the sea life and all the hands on activities at the Marble's Museum










Sinai Pre-K students and their parents enjoyed a Winter Wonderland Workshop together on December 7th. They made seasonal artwork and fun memories.









Due to light snow and the potential for black ice in some areas of the county, Halifax County Public Schools will operate on a two hour delay today, Monday, December 11, 2023. Twelve month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.

Fourth grade Sinai Scientists have recently been studying the ocean floor. Students have been learning about the continental shelf, continental slope, ocean trenches, abyssal plain and the continental rise. Students got to use their knowledge to build replicas of the ocean floor by using Play Dough and then marking each area with flags.











Sinai Scientists in 5th grade explored how matter vibrates to produce sound. Through different stations, they saw how you can see sound, how to create telephone cups, and how different objects transmit sound. They also saw how sound energy is related to mechanical energy.






Sinai Elementary fourth grade students in Mrs. Lanham's class participated in a hands-on activity creating solid 3-D shapes. The students used toothpicks and mini marshmallows to construct a cube, rectangular prism, and a square pyramid. Students also identified the number of faces, edges, and vertices on each solid shape.











As part of Computer Science Education Week, Mrs. Bowes' class participated in a 'Hour of Code' session. Mrs. Bowe's class was buzzing with excitement as they tackled the 'Hello World!' challenge, a cornerstone in the coding world. This activity wasn't just about learning to code; it was about opening doors to a world of digital creativity and problem-solving. The activity was led by Mrs. Lewis, ITRT.





Sinai Elementary School recently held it's 2023 Holiday Chorus Concert under the direction of Mr. Andre Williamson. Students sang a variety of holiday classics. The Grinch also made an appearance to the delight of many students and staff. Students were also able to pick a toy of their choice to take home thanks to Dollar General Corporation and their generous donation.







Sinai Scientists in Ms. Emerson's 3rd grade class completed a Bird Beak Models activity. The students used a variety of household objects such as tweezers, clothespins, and staple removers as "beaks" on "foods" such as rice, spaghetti, and cotton balls. Not only did the students have to make predictions and draw conclusions, they also had to make a bar graph with their findings. Once that was completed, the students had to analyze their findings. The students then discussed their data and their predictions and the differences.







Second grade students at Sinai Elementary made Oobleck as a part of their Procedural Text unit. They listened to the story Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss and made and confirmed predictions. Then the students made predictions about what would happen when they mixed the ingredients for Oobleck. The students used a recipe to make Oobleck. They experimented with the substance to confirm predictions and determine if it was a solid or a liquid.











5th graders at Sinai investigated sound while looking at the length of objects and pitch. They used plastic rulers, meter sticks, and wooden paint stirrers to see the effect the length of each item had on pitch. Students utilized observation skills to determine high and low pitches and frequencies.
