Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 classroom wanted multicolored cheerios, so they did a science experiment using food coloring to see if they could change the plain cheerios to multicolored cheerios. They were able to make red, yellow, green, blue, and orange cheerios.

This week students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class are learning about the letter U. The children practice tracing and making the letter U.

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class have been working super hard this school year. They have been learning their numbers, letters, colors, and sounds. Recently they learned how to count backwards from 5. The students were rewarded for working hard with a Sinai Eagle Buck which they redeemed at our Eagle Buck store. Sinai is so proud of our PK3 students!

Sinai Second Graders participated in a bartering activity as a part of their Economics unit in Social Studies. They dyed different colors and type of pasta noodles. Each student had one color and type of noodle and had to barter with classmates to gain other colors and types. After they bartered for the noodles that they wanted, they strung the colored pasta on a cord to create a Barter Necklace.

In celebration of Principal Appreciation Day, Sinai Elementary faculty and staff showed Mrs. Francine Davis how much we think of her. Mrs. Davis received many thoughtful and heartfelt gifts. Sinai loves our principal!

2nd graders at Sinai Elementary complete unplugged coding activities. Students use computational thinking and problem solving to complete each coding task. This educational opportunity was provided by the generosity of the Halifax County Public Schools Educational Foundation.

Second graders discussed and explored STEM careers with Mrs. Lewis, ITRT. Students designed and created a robotic arm that could pick up objects. STEM career exploration is a learning opportunity provided by a mini-grant funded by the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Thank you to HCPS Education Foundation for your generosity. STEM activities and projects provide opportunities for our students to use and practice critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration which give students a great foundation for future learning.

Many second graders at Sinai Elementary recently explored the design and engineering process. They worked with partners to build and create using many materials; styrofoam, magnet blocks, Legos, Keva planks, K’Nex and more. Students even worked to create circuits.

First grade students at Sinai Elementary are exploring unplugged coding activities with ITRT, Christie Lewis. This wonderful activity was made possible by a mini grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Thank you to HCPS Education Foundation for your generous donation.

On Friday, kindergarten students at Sinai Elementary participated in a nature scavenger hunt celebrating Earth Day! The students also investigated the differences between living organisms and nonliving objects, and how things change over time.

Sinai Elementary 4th and 5th grade girls recently met for Girls Who Code. Students ate lunch and along with Christie Lewis, ITRT discussed some information from the book "Learn to Code and Change the World" by Reshma Saujani and explored coding using the Indi robot.

Mrs. Lanham's third grade students at Sinai Elementary School took advantage of the beautiful weather and had their science lesson outside. The students enjoyed the fresh air and learning outside of the classroom.

Mrs. Lewis prepared a fun water cycle activity for the third grade students in Mrs. Lanham's class using the Ozobots. The students talked about the water cycle and drew the different parts in the cycle. Then, the students learned about coding and how to make the Ozobots follow through the steps of the water cycle. All of the students had fun learning in this hands-on activity.

Third grade students at Sinai Elementary School in Mrs. Lanham and Mrs. Baynes's class have been studying weather and the water cycle. The students participated in a fun, hands on learning experiment with a "Weather in a Cup" activity. In the activity, shaving cream represented when clouds condense and form. The food coloring was added so that the students could observe the precipitation portion of the water cycle.

Mrs. Lanham's third grade class at Sinai Elementary recently finished studying their unit on ancient Rome. One of the contributions that came from ancient Rome was the mosaic art form. The class ended the unit by creating mosaic works of art for St. Patrick's Day.

Sinai Elementary School's third grade classes recently visited The Prizery to see the performance of Matilda, the Musical. The students enjoy the play very much. This was made possible by the mini grant received from the HCPS Educational Foundation. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

5th graders at Sinai investigated and explored various science topics through the Danville Science Center Outreach Program. They experienced stars through the planetarium. They also created instruments, experimented with motion, and got to see hands-on examples of different types of rocks. Thanks to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation for sponsoring this mini-grant!

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class are learning about the number 19. The children made bracelets and necklaces out of Cheerios. They had to count out 19 cheerios in order to make their necklace/bracelet.
