
The Junction Field Trip – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed a field trip to The Junction. The students had a great time participating in a wagon ride around the pumpkin patch, a corn maze, playing on a rope "Spider", going down a slide, hopping on a jump pillow, and corn pit. Each student received a pumpkin after a day of fun!




Perfect Attendance – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center were recognized for having perfect attendance during the 1st nine weeks. Hitachi surprised the students with a token of appreciation. Let’s Strive for Five!

The students from South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed a visit from the South Boston Fire Department and South Boston Police Department. They learned about fire safety and how firefighters and police officers can help in the event of an emergency.



The students at South Boston Early Learning Center participated in the ShakeOut Day. It is a day designated to participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home!






The students and faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center created cards/signs for Bus Driver Appreciation Week.





Today, October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. It’s also a day to let people know that it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you’re going through. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. South Boston ELC - Family Night Out - The faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center hosted a Family Night Out for the students and parents. The students participated in hands-on activities with the teachers. The parents participated in two informational sessions that allowed them to take a Glimpse into the ELC World.



As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed Monday, October 9, 2023 in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.


SB-ELC - September Students of the Month - The following students at South Boston Early Learning Center were Student of the Month for September: Makenzie Williams, Antwan Coleman, Amiyah Duncan, Atkins Shealy, Sebastian Domingo, Brooke Bullock, Annie Franklin, Elaina Beck, Kayleigh Barrentine, Nia Brown, Ceanna Acree, Loraine Talley, Decker Smith and Nea Hughes.


Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.


Too many absences can keep students from succeeding in school. If students miss 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent.

Did you know If a student is absent 10% or more of the school year, it is considered chronic absenteeism? Ten percent is 18 days per school year or an average of two days a month.
