
As a reminder, students will be dismissed early on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Students from South Boston Early Learning Center and South Boston Elementary School will dismiss at 11:00 AM. All other students will dismiss at 11:30 AM. Winter break for students will be December 22, 2023 - December 29, 2023. The New Year's holiday is January 1, 2024. January 2, 2024 and January 3, 2024 are professional development/teacher workdays. Students return to school on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

Due to light snow and the potential for black ice in some areas of the county, Halifax County Public Schools will operate on a two hour delay today, Monday, December 11, 2023. Twelve month employees follow Code 2, report two hours late.


Student of the Month - Students that attend South Boston Early Learning Center received Student of the Month awards for the month of November.


South Boston ELC - December PTO Craft Day – Students enjoyed creating a holiday craft that was sponsored by South Boston Early Learning Center’s PTO. We would like to thank all the volunteers and PTO Board Members for making this activity a huge success.


South Boston ELC - Lending a Helping Hand – Students from Halifax County High School volunteered to help prepare craft items for South Boston Early Learning Center’s PTO December Craft Day. The following classes helped with the project: Ms. Forest, Ms. Flowers and Ms. Faulkner. Aniyah Yancey, FBLA Parliamentarian, organized the project. They cut out 134 handprints. We appreciate their help.



Interim reports for the second nine weeks are available for viewing on the Campus Portal. If you need assistance with the portal or need a paper copy of the report, please contact your child's school.

Zoo Field Trip – The students at the South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed a day at the Richmond Metro Zoo. Students had the opportunity to learn about different animals, their behaviors and habitat. They had a great time feeding animals and taking a safari ride to see many animals up close.



The students and faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center would like to thank Food Services for our delicious Thanksgiving Lunch. It was delicious!





The students pictured were recognized for being the October Students of the Month at South Boston Early Learning Center. They received a certificate and Mighty Bear. Congratulations!


The Three Little Pigs’ STEM Challenge - Mrs. Watts’/Ms. Putnam's Pre-K class at the South Boston Early Learning Center have been learning about The Little Pigs’ folktale. They participated in a Three Little Pigs’ STEM Challenge during centers. The students used 12 marshmallows and unlimited toothpicks to create a structure around their pig on a plate. The objective was to construct something that would withstand the Big Bad Wolf aka blow dryer and not fall down.






World Kindness Day is a day to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness for good which binds us. Kindness is a fundamental part of the human condition which bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender, and location.


All schools and offices will be closed Friday, November 10, 2023 in observance of Veterans Day.


Donation – The faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center donated $202.00 to the Halifax County Cancer Association. Pat Leith accepted the donation.


Hitachi Treat Bags – The faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center would like to thank Hitachi for talking to our students about Halloween safety. The students were excited to receive the Halloween treat bags as well receive information regarding the Hitachi Halloween Trunk or Treat.


The Junction Field Trip – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed a field trip to The Junction. The students had a great time participating in a wagon ride around the pumpkin patch, a corn maze, playing on a rope "Spider", going down a slide, hopping on a jump pillow, and corn pit. Each student received a pumpkin after a day of fun!




Perfect Attendance – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center were recognized for having perfect attendance during the 1st nine weeks. Hitachi surprised the students with a token of appreciation. Let’s Strive for Five!

The students from South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed a visit from the South Boston Fire Department and South Boston Police Department. They learned about fire safety and how firefighters and police officers can help in the event of an emergency.



The students at South Boston Early Learning Center participated in the ShakeOut Day. It is a day designated to participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home!
