
At the school board meeting on Monday, March 10, 2025, the board voted to convert Thursday, March 20, 2025, to a full instructional day for students.


Ms. Lee's class took part in Read Across America, exhibiting fine motor skills through "Thing 1 & Thing 2" and "The Cat in the Hat" craft projects.







Dancing through the Day – The students and their family enjoyed an interactive Family Arts Experience presented by Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts at South Boston Early Learning Center. Laura Schandelmeier was the Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist.









The students in Mrs. Crews' class went on a Safari Hunt and found a puzzle. They worked together to construct a giraffe



While learning about the different types of weather, Ms. Shelton's class enjoyed investigating snow and painting a sunshine.






The students in Mrs. Young's class discussed the letter C. The students were tasked with learning to recognize the letter Cc and associate it with objects that start with that letter and letter sound. In this activity, the students are using their fine motor skills to color the letter Cc. After coloring and cutting out all of their pieces, the students glued the C pattern and pieces onto construction paper to create a cow.





The students in Mrs. Ford's class completed a name craft using fine motor skills to glue pieces and letters onto their name clouds.




While studying farm animals, the students in Ms. Hackney's class used animal lacing cards to work on their concentration skills and improve their hand-eye coordination. Lacing cards encourages problem-solving by figuring out how to get the lace out of the cards once they have finished lacing them, helps the students pay attention to detail by allowing them to choose the animal and color lace they would like to use, and promotes conversations and giggles during the whole lacing adventure.






The students in Ms. Lee's class utilized fine motor skills to create patterns and the letter Hh and utilized writing skills to trace over letters in their name while recognizing the beginning sounds and letters.

The students in Mrs. Crews' class are enhancing their letter recognition and writing skills while enjoying the outdoors.

Due to the conditions of secondary roads, HCPS will be closed on Friday, February 21, 2025. This is a remote learning day for students and a work from home day for ten-month employees. Twelve-month employees are to follow code 2, report two hours late.

Due to the forecast for inclement weather this week, all elementary students will receive take-home learning packets and secondary students will complete work as assigned by their teachers. This work is to be completed over the days that school will not be in session. These assignments will come home with them Tuesday. In addition, the food services department has prepared food that students can eat at home during this time. If your child is absent on Tuesday, please call the school and make arrangements to pick up the learning packets and food. In the event we do not receive inclement weather and are able to attend school in-person, assignments do not need to be completed. Assignments will be collected and reviewed upon the first return to school. If you have questions during these remote learning days, please contact your child’s teacher.

Halifax County Public Schools is planning to operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2025.
