October 16, 2023 was National Dictionary Day. To celebrate, students wore shirts with words on them.











Students in Kindergarten used one of their 5 senses, taste to determine whether the popcorn was salty, sweet, hot , cold, etc. They then recorded their response.

First grade students at Sydnor Jennings got the opportunity to attend the annual Virginia Children's Book Festival at Longwood University. Students were able to learn and explore with some of the most popular and acclaimed authors in the country.

Ms. Dishmond's fifth grade students explored the parts of flowers through dissecting mums.








Second grade built a terrarium with living and nonliving things and how animals are interdependent on those things. Students used things they found during a nature walk to build their terrariums. Students also identified what was living and nonliving and how an animals might use or need those things.

Virginia Farm to School Week will occur October 2-6, 2023.
The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth increases awareness of Virginia farm to school programs. To celebrate the event, our schools in Halifax County as well as many others across Virginia will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple. Together, we will make some noise for farm to school programs! The “Crunch” is held during Virginia Farm to School Week each year. The Crunch will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023.


In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness, students wore yellow or gold.
