A Region 8 Transition Fair will be held on March 13, 2025 from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Students and families can engage with community agencies, service providers, and more. This event is open to all families and students with special needs. Please see below for more details.
Halifax County Public Schools' Elementary Gifted Program is currently accepting referrals for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will be assessed using ability tests, a student created portfolio, grades, and work habit characteristics. If you feel your child needs additional enrichment instruction beyond the classroom academic requirements, please contact your child’s teacher to initiate the gifted referral process. The deadline for referrals is February 17, 2025. Students that are currently in the elementary gifted program do not need to reapply. If you have any questions, please contact your school's gifted specialist. Those found eligible to participate in the Elementary Gifted Program will begin gifted services the following school year.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together event, drawings for door prizes took place. If you received a ticket, please review your tickets carefully. Pictured are the winning tickets. If you have a winning ticket, please call 434-476-2171. If prizes aren’t claimed by Tuesday, February 11, 2025, we will draw more tickets.
Pre-K students at Sydnor Jennings Elementary enjoyed a magical trip to The Prizery to watch Finding Nemo: The Play. It was an exciting and unforgettable experience for all!

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, there will be an event titled Blueprints for Dreams: Building Our Future Together. Students in grades 5-11 and their parents are invited to attend the event at HCMS from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. The presenters will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students.
The first one hundred attendees will receive a free BBQ meal with sides, a dessert, and drink. There will also be drawings for door prizes!
Please park in the bus parking lot. Doors will open at 5:15 PM.
If you are a student in grades 5-11 or a parent of a student in grades 5-11, you don’t want to miss this event! It will be very informative and exciting for all!

Mrs. Waller's class participated in an ice cream party. This was their reward for bringing in the most items to donate to the nursing home for Christmas. Great job!
