Microsoft employees hosted an event to introduce Career Pathways in Tech and Engineering to 4th nd 5th graders at Meadville Elementary School. Students were involved in hands-on STEM Labs which included CAT5 Cabling and CPX Microcontrollers. The CAT5 Cabling Lab allowed students to terminate a short length of CAT5 cable. The CPX Microcontrollers lab allowed students to use Circuit Playground Express to explore circuits. Speakers from Microsoft explained their careers and answered student questions. Kelly Lanier-Arnold, Mike Wilson, Kristin Vaughan, and Teresa Downey of Microsoft organized the event and coordinated with Susan Elliott, ITRT, to finalize plans. Thanks to Microsoft and its employees/volunteers that made this event possible: Jerry Shelton, Matt Wilson, Tad Lewis, Andrew Ezell, Tyler Farson, Michael Aherron, Caleb Robinson, Kashawn Hilliard, Justin Henderson, Drew Morris, and Steven Bollinger.

Ms. McLamb's second grade students used Skittles to explore probability. It was certain that everyone had fun!



Students in Ms. Hollis's kindergarten class coded BeeBot in this Digraph STEM lesson. They were working on th, sh, and ch.





Meadville Elementary School is proud to announce our Virginia Ambassadors of Kindness. They are role models of kindness, grace, empathy, dignity and acceptance to others.

Students in PreK-1st grade at Meadville Elementary participated in hands-on science activities directed by the Danville Science Center's Outreach program. PreK students investigated the five senses while Kindergarteners and first graders explored plants and sowed their own grass. This interactive experience was funded through a grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The mini-grant was awarded to Mrs. Kathy Payne, Instructional Coach.








VDOE - Executive Order 28 - Student and Family Resources Regarding Opioids, Overdoes and Fentanyl.
As directed in Governor Youngkin's Executive Order 28, local school divisions must provide informational resources to students, parents, and school personnel on opioid use and abuse to ensure the health and safety of all students in Virginia.

Mrs. Moore's PreK students at Meadville Elementary were involved in science experiments. Mrs. McGhee's groups made Magic Milk while Mrs. Moore's groups created clouds.





Mrs. Hupp's kindergarteners at Meadville had a fun time creating hearts in Valentine STEM centers. They used Wikki Stix, Play Doh, and Legos from the Makerspace Cart to create their hearts. Mrs.Elliott, ITRT, facilitated the lesson.







Mrs. Hupp’s kindergarten class had a great time completing a graph using Sweetheart candy for a Valentine’s Day activity.
The best part was eating the candy after they had finished!

Students in Mrs. Williams' second grade class at Meadville Elementary School participated in a social emotional learning activity for Valentine's Day, by writing positive adjectives on classmates' heart shaped balloons.

Mrs. Martin’s 1st grade has been discussing how things sink and float in science. Today they took part in enjoying a root beer float. They discussed what would happen with just the ice cream in the cup and then what would happen if root beer was added. The students thoroughly enjoy this tasty science experiment!
Meadville Elementary School second graders recently completed a non-fiction text and research unit learning about Chinese culture. Students in Mrs. Williams' and Ms. McLamb's classes celebrated Chinese New Year's Eve on Friday with a food tasting and STEAM project, where students were challenged to build a life-sized dancing dragon. Afterwards, students paraded through the halls showing off their creations.

Meadville announces January's Students of the Month!

Mrs. Williams's second graders at Meadville Elementary coded Drones to land on the continents. The lesson was facilitated by Mrs. Elliott, ITRT.










Our Wednesday was made brighter at Meadville Elementary with a few parent readers for World Read Aloud Day!



Mrs. Fallen's 5th graders at Meadville coded Ozobots using the program Ozoblockly. They experimented with level 2 and 3 movement blocks, light effects, timing, loops and sounds. The lesson was facilitated by Mrs. Elliott, ITRT.
