Students in Ms. Hamlett's Physical Science Classes used phenolphthalein, ammonia, and vinegar to demonstrate the chemical reactions of acids and bases.




Students in Ms. Hamlett's Physical Science Classes use marshmallows and toothpicks to create models of compound structures.






Mrs. Powell and Ms. Brown's 7th-grade Civics classes presented Loony Laws to explain the lawmaking process.





The Girls Rock Book Club had its second meeting of the year. They enjoyed treats provided by the Halifax Junior Woman’s Club. They discussed the book from last month and introduced a new book, Dear Student, by Elly Swartz. The Girls Rock Book Club also wants to express their gratitude to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s Youth Literacy Grant Program for recently awarding them funds to help supply books for the group.

Students from Mrs. Swanson's 6th Grade U.S. History I Honors class did an in-depth study of Native American Dwellings. They considered how the unique tribes would utilize the resources available to them and how they designed their dwellings to meet the needs they would face in their environment. In addition to posters and slideshows, the students had the opportunity to build models of the Native American Dwelling they selected to study.

Mr. Knapp's GOTEC classes have been very busy. Seventh-grade GOTEC classes are shown building simple machines with VEX IQ Robotic kits. Eighth-grade GOTEC classes are shown working on video game development with Microsoft MakeCode Arcade, building VEX IQ BaseBots, & competing in a set task with their ClawBots they built from VEX IQ Robotic kits.



Mr. Layne’s 7th and 8th grade art classes just completed a unit on still-life painting. The 8th graders chose to paint realistically; 7th graders were asked to explore monochromatic and bichromatic color schemes. Their work looks fantastic!





Miss Campbell’s & Mrs. Barksdale’s 7th grade math classes worked on a "Representing Equivalent Algebraic Expressions (Modeling)” activity using algebra tiles. Students received a bag of algebra tiles and worked in groups to determine how to set up their tiles to model the algebraic expressions given to them.

A tree fell on a power line causing the alarm to go off at the high school. We were trying to avoid drills and alarms until the Snapchat threats are calmed. Fire and police responded. All students and staff are safe and back inside. The superintendent, school administration, and top law enforcement officials are meeting today to generate solutions around this. Please report, do not repost any threats you may see. There is no credible threat at this time.
