All students and staff will receive certified solar-viewing glasses to protect their eyes.
The National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) has a variety of free resources about safety considerations for the eclipse. NOTE: Regular sunglasses, swimming goggles, and other eyewear are NOT safe for looking directly at the sun.
The eclipse will occur in Halifax County from 1:59 p.m. to 4:29 p.m. with maximum view at 3:16 p.m.: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/where-when/

The Girls Rock Book Club met to discuss and enjoy activities for their most recent read, “Smile”, a graphic novel by Raina Telgemeier. They were also super excited to get club t-shirts to represent our school and the love of reading.

For three days at the end of January, seventh-grade students took a Learning Quest to space. With the help of three mini-grants from the Halifax Education Foundation, Mrs. Bowers-Stanley, Ms. Hamlett, and Mrs. Mitchell were able to make it happen. Physical science students participated in a STEM activity where they visited stations to create scale models of the solar system and explore the solar system through virtual reality headsets purchased with grant funding. The lesson focused on orbital paths, rotation, measurement, and distance. We would like to thank the Halifax Education Foundation for supporting innovative instruction at HCMS!
