Hi, my name is Riley Francisco, and I’m super excited to share a project I worked on! I built a model of Halifax County Middle School entirely out of cardboard!

The Girls Rock Book Club met on November 18th to discuss our book “Dear Student” by Elly Swartz. The girls also wrote their own mini advice columns, like our main character Autumn ,to help share positive messages with their classmates! These students had a great time enjoying snacks, engaging in discussion, and playing games together.

The students in Ms. Williams and Mrs. Dixon’s Life Science classes created animal and plant cell models to make complex ideas easier to understand. They demonstrated their knowledge of plant and animal cells by constructing a cell model with their choice of medium. Students made play dough or clay models, edible models, styrofoam models, fabric models, mobiles, cardboard models, or poster board models. They used their imaginations and had fun! Great job, Ms. Williams and Mrs. Dixon’s Life Science classes!

As a reminder, all schools and offices will be closed Monday, November 11, 2024 in observance of Veterans Day.

The Witch's Brew!
Students in Ms. Hamlett's Physical Science Classes used phenolphthalein, ammonia, and vinegar to demonstrate the chemical reactions of acids and bases.

Students in Ms. Hamlett's Physical Science Classes use marshmallows and toothpicks to create models of compound structures.

Mrs. Powell and Ms. Brown's 7th-grade Civics classes presented Loony Laws to explain the lawmaking process.

The Girls Rock Book Club had its second meeting of the year. They enjoyed treats provided by the Halifax Junior Woman’s Club. They discussed the book from last month and introduced a new book, Dear Student, by Elly Swartz. The Girls Rock Book Club also wants to express their gratitude to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s Youth Literacy Grant Program for recently awarding them funds to help supply books for the group.
Students from Mrs. Swanson's 6th Grade U.S. History I Honors class did an in-depth study of Native American Dwellings. They considered how the unique tribes would utilize the resources available to them and how they designed their dwellings to meet the needs they would face in their environment. In addition to posters and slideshows, the students had the opportunity to build models of the Native American Dwelling they selected to study.
