The Danville Science Center Outreach program recently visited Sinai's fifth graders. They participated in a variety of hands-on activities to review science topics covered this year. They investigated motion using different weights on a wooden car. Then, they completed a sound lab and saw how sound is a type of energy that uses vibrations. Thank you to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation for supporting this program through a mini-grant!

In Mrs. Fear's classroom, the 5th-grade students were divided into groups to test their knowledge with some fun Science questions. They worked together, discussing each question and coming up with their answers. If a group answered correctly, they got a chance to play the beanbag toss game! During this nine-week period, Kindergarten students at Sinai Elementary participated in an engaging science lab focused on shadows. They learned about light and discovered how shadows are created when sunlight or artificial light is blocked by an object. Through hands-on activities, students explored the fascinating relationship between light and shadows, enhancing their understanding of these fundamental concepts.

Sinai Kindergarten students participated in a science lab collecting data on seeds. Students made hypotheses on what they thought would happen to seeds that were watered versus seeds that were dry. The students were to make and share observations over the days they collected data.

Recently, Sinai's 5th graders engaged in an interactive lesson on renewable and nonrenewable resources. To simulate the depletion of nonrenewable resources, the students participated in a hands-on activity where they took turns collecting noodles.
As they progressed through the activity, the students noticed that, over time, the supply of noodles diminished, mirroring the scarcity of nonrenewable resources in the real world. This experiential learning not only helped them understand the concept of resource depletion but also sparked discussions about the importance of conservation and sustainable practices.
In addition to collecting noodles, the students were encouraged to think critically about how renewable resources, such as solar and wind energy, can provide sustainable alternatives to nonrenewable resources. This comprehensive approach allowed students to grasp the significance of resource management and its impact on the environment.

Recently, Mrs. Emerson's third graders at Sinai had an exciting opportunity to visit Tingy's STEM Lab. During this hands-on experience, the students divided themselves into groups and were given a Lego Transparent Classic box.
In their groups, students were tasked with following the directions in the booklet to create several different types of Lego figures. This activity not only focused on building skills but also emphasized the importance of teamwork and effective communication.
To successfully construct the figures, including lions, cars, wizards, aquarium fish, and potion tables, the students had to enhance their ability to follow directions and collaborate with their peers. The project was a huge success, showcasing the creativity and teamwork of the students!
This visit to Tingy's STEM Lab provided a valuable learning experience, reinforcing essential skills in a fun and engaging way.
